  • Montana de Montserrat - Montserrat is a rocky mountain situated 50 km southwest of Barcelona. It is regarded as the most significant and important mountain in Catalonia. The name Montserrat is derived from the Catalan words Mont (mountain) and serrat (serrated).

The mountain’s importance stems from the legend of the miraculous appearance of the Madonna and Child in one of the caves, which was named Santa Cova (The Holy Cave). The wooden carving of the Madonna and Child is preserved in the Church of the monastery and can be visited. This image of the Madonna is popularly known as La Moreneta (The Black Madonna) due to its dark color.

Best tour - Beautiful place very scenic. We took the 3pm tour, got held up in traffic for an hour. We had to rush to see the Black Madonna and then missed out on the liquor tasting as the store closed at 6 pm which was very disappointing. I think this tour should begin at 2 pm to avoid disappointment. To sum it all, this tour is a must if you plan your n visiting Barcelona. Our guide Enrique was the best

Must see, but longer free time needed - Anna was very friendly and fluent both in English and Spanish. We had amazing time to watch Montserrat and Black Maria. Anna explained the history and points to watch, and easier to walk around. Only con is tour time was really pressing and we had to move one to the other place too soon. The more tourists made all the waiting times were longer. If you have time, I recommend to have a longer hours than 4 hours of trip. 2 hours are gone for transporting and only 30 min are your own time.
