Highlights
  • Casa Vicens - Casa Vicens represents the inaugural architectural endeavor of Gaudi and stands as a significant milestone in his career. This masterpiece, which UNESCO designated as a World Heritage site in 2005, welcomes visitors to explore one of the pivotal works of Antoni Gaudí that set the stage for his future creations.

Constructed from 1883 to 1885 at the behest of Don Manuel Vicens, Casa Vicens is a precursor to Modernist architecture, foreshadowing Gaudi’s subsequent projects and exemplifying the artistic transformation that permeated Europe in the late nineteenth century.

The design was conceived as a seasonal residence with a garden, showcasing geometric patterns and lavish ornamentation that draw inspiration from the surrounding natural flora, a theme that is evident both on the exterior and within the various interior spaces.

Magnificent, uncrowded, peaceful - balm to the soul - Forget the overcrowded Sagrada Familia and the houses on Passeig de Garcia. Casa Vicens was, for us, the standout highlight of our Barcelona trip. We were able to linger, admiring the exterior as well as the beautifully realised interior, with only a few fellow visitors. The audio guide is extremely helpful in allowing one to appreciate what lay behind Gaudi’s beautiful design. My only criticism - why did the owners or city authorities allow the estate/garden to be destroyed and the blocks of flats which crowd around Casa Vicens to be built? The occupants must be the luckiest flat dwellers in Barcelona!

Beautiful building to see some early Gaudí work - Very interesting trip around Gaudí's first commission, and Viator appeared to have one of the best prices on tickets, so....! Some beautiful architecture, and amazing features & details - as you'd expect from the work of Gaudí. On what felt like a slightly smaller scale than other locations, but none the worse for that. Nice to get a cool drink in the cafe, and was also quite impressed with the shop too. Definitely a great way to spend an hour or so.

Peaceful, beautiful oasis! - This a truly special place. The audio guide was perfect; not overly detailed while still sharing a lot of information. It’s a peaceful oasis amidst the busy city, and well worth the stop! ~60-90 min total depending how long you want to spend.

Exciting visit - This bourgeois house is one of Gaudi's first major achievements. The visit allows you to fully understand how the Catalan architect conceived of family life and to measure the innovations he brought to architecture.

The first house designed by Gaudi - The first house built by Gaudì: the exterior and interior recall the Moorish style, it is very particular. Completely renovated in 2017, it offers a truly particular example of architecture. It is part of the UNESCO heritage. The exterior has various majolica decorations, the interior has rooms with decorations on the walls and ceilings that refer to nature as a theme and are different for each room. I recommend visiting it on your own, with the audio guide, so you can take all the time you want.

Beautiful property - Quite different than other Gaudi designs - but equally magnificent. I could easily live in this home!! Visiting the rooftop is great, but only open if it's not raining. I would recommend this if you're a Gaudi fan
