Amazing experience - We got to go to the market and shop for our own ingredients which made the paella super fresh. The sangria was delicious and so were the tapas. The instructor allowed us to do a majority of the cooking so we really got to experience and be interactive with it. The Paella was amazing and at the end he gave us recommendations for food, drinks and were to buy the best spices to take home with us.

Cooking in Barcelona - This was a good tour. We met some great people and the food was good. Definitely a good experience. The end was a bit rushed since there was another class after ours and we had to find our way back to the meeting point without our guide. The guest made it really fun!

Paella and sangria in Barcelona - An enthusiastic chef keen to keep us all entertained. I would have liked to not only enjoy the sangria, but also cook a little as well, rather than just watch and listen to him explain how to make the paella. But we each got to chop or stir some of the ingredients. Just would have liked a more hands on class.

Don't Do it! - Brace yourself for a whirlwind of disappointment with the so-called "Interactive Spanish Cooking Experience" in Barcelona—a misnomer that should be more accurately branded as a lackluster paella demonstration. I fell for the glowing 5-star reviews, and I urge you not to repeat my mistake. Our evening began at 6:45 PM with a walk to the iconic La Boqueria market, where, to our dismay, most stalls were shuttered for the night. After a brief exchange of hometowns among the group, we were unceremoniously given 10 minutes to wander aimlessly through the ghost town of a market—no tour, no insight, nothing. The group’s return was delayed by one straggler, adding another 10 minutes to our aimless wait. Then, we huddled around a single seafood stall, loitering there for over 20 minutes as our host painstakingly selected seafood for the dish. The so-called "interactive" experience quickly descended into a farce as we trudged for another 20 minutes to a residential kitchen, ill-prepared to accommodate any meaningful culinary engagement. Our participation was reduced to menial tasks: slicing half an onion, dicing half a pepper, removing mussel beards, and peeling shrimp. Those who opted for the vegetarian paella fared slightly better—they were left to cook their meal in its entirety while the rest of us watched the chef monopolize the process. The only “excitement” came when a cockroach made its bold appearance, darting across the wall as the chef attempted, in a truly unsanitary spectacle, to swat it with his shoe. In the end, one of the guests became the unintended hero by finally eliminating the unwelcome critter. Any expectations of tapas preparation, as falsely advertised with the mention of "pintxos," were dashed upon arrival at the kitchen. Instead, we were greeted by a meager plate of cold cuts, crackers, and olives. Being last in line, I was left with two lonely slices of salami. There was no crafting of pintxos, just a prelude of disappointment. As we watched the chef commandeer the paella preparation, the atmosphere grew stale, much like the sangria, which ran dry mid-way through the night. Only then was one guest enlisted to assist in making a fresh batch. When the paella was finally served, it was a bland, underwhelming affair, with the cuttlefish being the only ingredient to offer any semblance of flavor. The evening ended on a painfully awkward note as we made our exit, one by one, with no farewell, no mention of a nearby bar, and no "chupito" in sight—another broken promise. This experience was an overpriced, uninspired disaster, and I can’t fathom how it has garnered so many glowing reviews. Having attended cooking classes across the globe, I can confidently say this was the most disappointing by far. Save yourself the regret and heed my advice: DON’T book this experience.
