Highlights
  • Shilihe Culture - Your tour will begin with pickup at your hotel in Beijing at either 9am, 11:00am or 13:00 as your choice.

First you will head to the local flower, fish and insect market. You will see many kinds of cute animals like turtles, terrapins, fish, budgerigars, parrots, doves, rabbits, chinchillas, cats, kittens, mice, hamsters, iguanas and dragon lizards. Besides the cute animals, there is quite a range of other merchandise offered for sale. Jewelry is another widely sold items you may stumble across in this market once you venture inside. Jade and other semi-precious stones can be found either made up as bracelets, necklaces or available singularly.

  • Panjiayuan Antique Market - Then you will head to the Panjiayuan Antique Market. The Antique Market is only available during the weekend, you will find some vendors coming from all parts of China to show their handmade stuff or arts for sale. It is a huge market selling and collecting Chinese folk handcrafts. What you will see are like jewelry, ceramics, calligraphy, teapots, ethnic clothing, Buddha statues, paper lanterns, Cultural Revolution memorabilia, PLA belts, Ming- and Qing-style furniture, old pipes, opium scales, and painted human skulls and many more!
  • 798 Art Zone - While you are browsing, your guide will provide some shopping tips and advise to you depending on your interests. Your lunch is included if you start the tour at 9am or 11am, and dinner is included if you start the tour at 13:00pm.

Your final stop is the 798 Art Zone. A vast area of disused factories built by the East Germans, 798 Art Zone is Beijing’s main concentration of contemporary art galleries, boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants. By January 2008, over 400 cultural organizations, coming from France, Italy, Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other countries and regions, have settled down in the zone.

Something different to do in Beijing - Our tour guide LUCY was a very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable guide. This is a great way to see the local markets of China that would be very difficult to see alone. The 798 Art Zone is also a must see, highly recommend!

Great Day! - Linda our guide was excellent. Really easy to get along with and told us a lot of interesting facts about China and Beijing. I would recommend this tour because although you could wander around by yourselves you get all your questions answered in fluent English, and there’s so much to see, trust me you will have lots of them!!

Old and New Beijing! - Had a GREAT guide named MIKO who really made this an enjoyable tour. Enjoying time at the Antique Market ended up taking up more time than originally planned but MIKO worked with us and was very flexible. Good thing since we didn't think the Flower & Fish market needed any time at all. You can drop this altogether and enjoy more time at the 798 Art Zone which is big and showcases Beijings art scene. Old China at the Antique Market and New China in the Art Zone. Totally cool! Thanks MIKO for rocking this tour for us with relevant information, fun language lessons, assistance in bartering, and your sense of humor. We will be looking you up next time we are back!
