  • Hall of Benevolence and Longevity - Built in 1750, it was originally known as the Hall of Industrious Government. Emperor Qianlong decreed that halls where monarchs conducted state affairs would be named after them. After the Summer Palace was rebuilt, the hall was renamed to signify that benevolent rulers would enjoy long lives.
  • Kunming Lake - Constructed during the Qing Dynasty in the early 18th century, Kunming Lake was initially called Wengshan Lake. It was later renamed to honor the emperor’s hometown, Kunming. The lake is cherished by the Chinese people as a symbol of harmony and peace. It is said to have been designed to replicate the West Lake in Hangzhou, which was considered the most beautiful lake at the time.
  • Hall of Happiness and Longevity - This section was the main architectural structure in the living quarters and the residence of Empress Dowager Cixi. The entire compound was primarily made of wood, ideal for ventilation and lighting.
  • Long Corridor at the Summer Palace - The Long Corridor is the longest garden corridor in China and one of the oldest structures in the Summer Palace. It is a covered walkway stretching 728 meters along the northern shore of Kunming Lake, connecting with a series of buildings at the base of Longevity Hill.
  • Suzhou Market Street - Built in 1750 during the Qing Dynasty, Suzhou Street mimics the style of towns in South China (Jiangsu and Zhejiang). It was a place where emperors and empresses enjoyed leisurely strolls and is now the most visited attraction in the Summer Palace.

Summer Palace F&E - Perhaps the weather was not too good - cloudy and even low season, it was terribly crowded. It was kind of far from Beijing downtown to this place, so it made sense to spend at least 2-3 hours in this garden. Guess it is still an eye opener for those who have not visited a summer palace.
