In this class, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to form stylish Japanese characters related to the local area, including the words for ‘hot spring’ and ‘hell’ - using only traditional paint brushes and paper.
Able to take their creations home with them afterwards, participants can enjoy a relaxed, beginner-friendly atmosphere under the guidance of an experienced local instructor.* As well as being a great chance to learn a new skill, this is a wonderful opportunity to meet and interact with Japanese locals.

This calligraphy workshop focuses on creating text related to the surrounding hot spring region of Beppu. Participants can learn how to write words such as ‘温泉’ - ‘onsen’ (meaning ‘hot spring’) and ‘地獄’ - ‘jigoku’ (meaning ‘hell’), under the guidance of a friendly local instructor. As well as being able to take your one-of-a-kind masterpiece home with you, this is also a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the charm of traditional Japanese culture, learning not only technique but also Japanese calligraphy etiquette.

A fun, creative, unusual tourist activity. - Aoi was such a patient teacher, and pointed out our progress as we went. The facilities were perfect, with a yummy ramen shop down the street for lunch afterward. We loved finding a creative, out-of-the way place to explore during our one day in Beppu (we're on a cruise).

Cool calligraphy experience - Thank you very much for such a great experience! The house is full of art and love and you feel from the first moment that you are in someone's home. My son liked it very muchand we all learned a lot! There are also other activities offered. We would have loved to do the cooking class, but unfortunately we had to leave.
