GUIDED TOUR: Secrets of the Fjords

Discover Western Norway’s hidden gems on a 6.5-hour guided tour from Bergen. Explore Osterfjord’s beauty with a knowledgeable driver-guide.

Duration: 7 hours
Cancellation: 1 day learn more
Highlights
  • Bergenhus Fortress - This is a short round-trip by car to the amazing Osterfjord area.

Our professional driver-guide picks you up at your hotel in Bergen centre (or cruise ship port) and our tour starts. Departure is usually at 9:00am unless otherwise agreed.

Leaving Bergen we drive past some of the sights. The Medieval fortress of Bergenhus is one of them.

  • Osterøy Bridge - From Bergen, we will travel to the Osterfjord – a fjord that surrounds one on the largest continental islands in Europe – Osterøy island, 127 square miles (330 km2).

Our first stop is at the viewpoint right after crossing the bridge over the fjord.

  • Dale of Norway Factory Outlet & Museum - Returning to mainland, we move on to Dale, where the famous sweater factory is located – “Dale of Norway”. We can visit the factory outlet and maybe pick up some woolen souvenirs there.
  • Skipshelleren - From Dale we take one of lesser-known roads going north: steep mountains, narrow fjords and secluded villages along the way.

Our next stop is at the Stone Age settlement on the Bolstadfjord: a short walk on a moderately steep trail is required.

  • Mo - We continue our journey and reach Mo (pronounced “Moo”) – a cosy village between two waterfalls: Geitaskaret and Kvernhusfossen. Here we can have lunch at a small restaurant/café overlooking the Mofjord and Geitaskaret waterfall.
  • Mostraumen - Our next and last stop on this tour is at the Mostraumen strait - the 600 meters long, very narrow channel connecting two fjords. During the tide there is a strong current here and, of course, an amazing view (regardless of the tide).
  • Osterfjorden - On our way back to Bergen we’ll continue our ride along the Osterfjord - now to the west of Osterøy island.
(Usually we do not stop here.)
  • Nordhordlandsbrua - Before returning to Bergen we will cross the fjord on the second longest bridge in Norway - the Nordhordlandsbrua - part floating part suspension bridge.
(Usually we do not stop here)

Authentic tour of REAL Norway! Scenic views were amazing! Tour guide was knowledgeable and accommodating for all ages - Away from the crowds, this trip allows visitors to experience authentic Norway. Beautiful views. Scenic vistas. Interesting tour guide who was so friendly and knowledgeable - he even paired the drive with the perfect music to highlight the experience. We were able to stop and explore sites and places most visitors to Bergen would never have the chance to experience. We capped the afternoon off with a picnic lunch in a Norwegian village amidst touring fjords and scenic waterfalls. Great experience for all ages and abilities in the comfort of a personal and comfortable vehicle. Would highly recommend to families, couples, or individuals who are seeking to explore and experience a day away from the crowded tour buses. A true authentic Norwegian adventure!

Best tour I have ever done! - This is the best tour I have ever done! Vlad made the day so much fun and it was so interesting learning about the secrets of the fjords. Everything had been thought about, down to the music that Vlad played as we drove through the fjords and tunnels and the refreshments he had made for us. I can’t recommend this tour enough, we saw things we would have never known existed without the knowledge of a local :) Truly the secrets of the fjords!

Incredible Experience! - First, I would just like to say how Amazing our tour guide Vlad was - attentive, kind, respectful, knowledgeable, fun, focused and put safety as his number one property always. This is a perfect excursion for a group of friends but also family with children (although children will have to hike a little bit). Vlad himself has a big family, who he is always traveling outdoors with. He knows his way around the roads and the country side. We absolutely love how private our tour was. Three of us, Vlad and a Tesla. Vlad picked us up right on time from our Hotel - then started the tour. We loved how he customized our tour to our liking. We asked him to stop by some shopping places that was not touristy and he knew exactly where to take us. We asked him to take us to lunch at a unique place which was also away from tourists and he took us to this amazing restaurant overlooking to huge Fjord. Along the way, we made many stops, and it was constant exploration - he allows you to play your own music as well and does everything in his power to make sure you are enjoying your time. You can't go wrong with this your - if you have the money to spend and looking for a quality tour that has many layers to offer you with a guide that will keep you entertained and make you feel safe - this is it. Keep in mind that weather can influence your experience, but as long as Vlad is there, you are good! Thank You, Vlad - your tour was truly worth a million bucks! Until next time!

wow what a magical trip! - wow what a magical trip! our tour guide Vlad was fabulous! he shared plenty of interesting histories about Norway and the places we drove past and stopped to visit and even brought along some traditional Norwegian drinks and biscuits to try which was lovely! he took us to some remote and stunningly beautiful spots along the Fjord - each with its own unique story. Lunch can be bought in the cafe at Mo (lovely fish and chips! and ice cream!) at the head of the Fjord which is spectacular! I have been on trips all over the world and this one is definitely in the top 10 !
