Highlights
  • Berliner Fernsehturm - The TV tower is situated in the heart of East Berlin on Alexander Platz, with the Neptune Fountain at its base.
  • Berliner Dom - The Berlin Cathedral is located on Museum Island, flanked by the Spree River on one side and the Lustgarten in front, opposite the new City Palace.
  • Bebelplatz - Formerly known as Opernplatz, Bebelplatz is home to the State Opera Unter den Linden and St. Hedwig’s Cathedral. The square gained notoriety for the book burning by the National Socialists, and today a memorial stands in remembrance.
  • Humboldt University (Humboldt Universitat) - Berlin’s largest and oldest university has been named after Prussian scientists Wilhelm and Alexander von Humboldt since 1949. It is situated across from Bebelplatz, where you can also find the “Alter Fritz” monument.
  • Brandenburg Gate - Initially a city gate, it was reconstructed by Friedrich Wilhelm II as a triumphal arch. The “Unter den Linden” boulevard serves as a promenade in central Berlin. During the Cold War, the Brandenburg Gate was on the border and became a symbol of divided Germany.
  • Victory Column (Siegessaule) - Erected to commemorate victories in the German Wars of Unification, including the German-Danish War (1864), the Prussian-Austrian War (1866), and the Franco-German War of 1870/71. Today, visitors can climb the Victory Column to view the Tiergarten and the Brandenburg Gate from its platform.
  • Gendarmenmarkt - Originally a market for French Huguenots, Gendarmenmarkt is now a venue for cultural events and concerts. It is home to the French Cathedral, the Playhouse, and the German Cathedral.
