Guide: Chris - Chris (from Canada) was our guide. His knowledge was commendable. He took utmost care in presenting the various possible perspectives and positions of the parties involved in this horrific piece of history with fairness, keeping the human element in mind. He spoke well, at a good pace, had a sense of humour and was a delight to be with over the 2 hours. You could tell, for him it was a passion, not a job. Highly recommend going with Chris.

A learning process. - The guide is very knowledgeable and able to pout the entire tour in a humanistic context covering the most important in the time allowed. Well done and recommended.

An experience every person should have - Hanah was our guide and took us by train and then by bus to the site. She not only gave us historical information but also provoked reflection. Buy the ABC train ticket before joining the Groupon. That will avoid delays.

Tina's Tours - I heard about Ernestina's (Tina) tours from a friend, and I'm grateful I was able to connect with Tina to join a last minute weekend tour that still had space available. Tina was prompt and easy to communicate with via WhatsApp, a positive and well educated tour guide, and very respectful throughout the 5 hour Berlin tour. She took us through a portion of Germany's troubling past at the concentration camp memorial, where she was able to provide our diverse tour group with lesser known historical facts as well as perspectives from different angles. She also supported our education by suggesting movies, interviews, books, and poems for us to research after our tour, if we were interested. Due to the heaviness of the topic, Tina was respectful of the members of the group and checked in on us throughout the day. Tina brings to light an important history, that wasn't so long ago, and moved our group to grasp upon the difficult and impactful details through her historical passion. She kept the tour going at a good pace focusing on key topics. I was apprehensive about taking a tour of a place that seemed so full of despair- but Tina's energy, respect for the memorial, and knowledge of the events moved our entire group to grow and learn so much.

Indifferent guide, and bad experience overall - I wish I did this by myself, without the guide. The guide was uninterested, and did not give us enough time. The guide was also extremely upset about the way Sandeman treated their employees (which he spoke of a few times), and his displeasure showed in his lack of interest in the tour. We were delayed because the guide himself showed up late to the tour. (To be fair, the guide showed by at 11, instead of 10.45. But this 15 min delay meant that we missed our original train, and got a train much later - causing a total delay of 75 minutes. ) Instead of extending the tour, the guide crunched the tour into the remaining time to end it on the original time. We reached the memorial at 1.30 pm (instead of 12 :15 pm), and he ended it by 3 pm. I later spent about 90 minutes by myself exploring the place with the map, and a lot of important aspects of the tour were missed out for the folks who only went with the guide. For context, barrack 38, 39 the prison cell and a tower near by are converted to museums, some of them with 2 floors of exhibits. The guide gave us 25 minutes to cover all of these 4. To rush through the memorial the way the guide did made it feel a little disrespectful to the memorial. I wouldn't recommend doing this with Sandeman. Not only is it a poor experience, it is also disrespectful to the memorial.

Go yourselves and get the audio guide for 3€ - Our tour guide hardly spoke English’s. It was his first tour in English and he said he was very uncomfortable to do it… we were uncomfortable too because we could hardly understand or follow and didn’t want to have to ask him to repeat it. He started the tour by saying how much he hates his company and that they have to pay more and more for certifications now that they are paying him less, so please remember to leave a tip…. Wow. We didn’t ber on the train till 12, meaning we didn’t get there till 1pm and not even inside till after 2. We end up leaving the group around 4 because we got so bored of the stories that we couldn’t really understand, we end up reading and following the map ourselves, then finding our own way home. Thankfully we left the group when we did because turns out they didn’t get the train back till 545 meaning not back into the city till 645-7pm. Additionally the guide went on and on about how the Spanish are not recognised on a memorial when there are many other counties also not recognised …but being Spanish he obviously cared more about this and needed to give us 20 minutes on why he felt this way. Complete waste of money. Go yourselves and get the audio guide for 3€
