Situated in the Kathmandu Valley, Bhaktapur Durbar Square is amongst the biggest medieval period Durbar Squares. It can be found in the Bhaktapur district, a 13 km drive from Kathmandu, the capital city. Bhaktapur is akin to a living museum showcasing historical structures, monuments, shrines and intricate wooden and metal crafts scattered around the vicinity. Bhaktapur Durbar Square gained recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.

Changunarayan is another popular destination not far from Bhaktapur. Known to be Nepal’s ancient Hindu temple, many tourists visit Changunarayan en route to Nagarkot either by hiking or vehicle. This temple has also achieved distinction as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
