Highlights

Obidos Village - Our journey begins with a two-hour walk through the enchanting medieval village of Óbidos. Starting at the main gate, we’ll explore charming narrow streets off the beaten path.

Next, I’ll reveal the hidden Jewish quarter with its whitewashed houses, perfect for some picturesque moments.

We’ll then savor the local Ginjinha, a sour cherry liqueur, at Mr. António’s house. His version is rich in flavor, free from any additives.

Along the way, we’ll encounter ancient sculptures and details often missed by typical tourist guides!

Igreja de Santa Maria - We’ll visit this church to admire Portuguese tile work from the 17th and 18th centuries, along with five paintings by the renowned 17th-century Portuguese artist, Josefa de Óbidos.
Sao Tiago Church - We’ll step inside São Tiago Church, which today serves as a bookstore.
Castelo de Obidos - We’ll explore the original castle, captured by the Portuguese army in the 12th century.

We’ll embark on a two-hour journey through the astonishing medieval town of Óbidos. Our expedition begins at the main entrance of the village, leading us to exquisite narrow lanes off the common path.

Subsequently, we will introduce you to the Moorish and Jewish district, distinguished by its white-washed homes offering incredible photo opportunities.

Eventually, we’ll savour the exquisite, locally made Ginjinha, a sour cherry liqueur that’s bursting with flavors and devoid of any additives.

FABULOUS overview of Óbidos history with a great storyteller - Wonderful rendering of the deeply layered history of Óbidos and the surrounding area. JP was articulate, informed, and amusing. I especially liked visiting book stores and churches with accompanying tales. I highly recommend this tour!

Interesting tour of Obidos - We had a great time with Ivo and would highly recommend him. He is a native of the area and is very knowledgeable with interesting facts, stories, tidbits, places and recommendations. He was able to take us on less touristy routes and talk about the history but also present day life in Obidos. A very worthwhile tour.

Very interesting walk through medieval town! - Our family of 4 with 2 teens enjoyed this tour. Our guide Bruno was very knowledgeable and made our walk through the medieval town very interesting. The Tasting of Ginja at the end was a sweet surprise at the end of a great tour. Highly recommends!

Amazing tour! Highly recommend - I did this tour with my family in February 24 with the guide João Pedro, and the experience was excellent! João Pedro was very knowledgable and we could see the passion that he has for his work. He was also very flexible during the tour because although my mom, dad and I speak Portuguese, my husband doesn't, so he not only explained everything in English, but also in Portuguese, when someone didn't understand something. He also showed us not only the main highlights of the city and explained the history of Óbidos, but he also shared some curiosities and even offered us the opportunity to try Ginja in the end of the tour! We can't thank him enough! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Óbidos.
