Highlights
  • 445 Kulana St - At the Judgement of Paris Wine Tasting in 1976, Napa Valley burst onto the world stage by sweeping the event in both white and red categories. Today, Hawaiian chocolate is undergoing a similar revolution. At the Salon Du Chocolat 2023 in Paris, Chocolate made with Hawaiian Cacao won nearly a quarter of the first prize placements against 20 other international finalists. An impressive accomplishment, considering Hawaii is responsible for less than .1% of global production.

At Honolii Orchards, you will get to peak behind the curtain of craft chocolate. From the orchards to the tasting room. From soil to bar. It is an experience like no other

Additional Information

Join us under the canopy for a chocolate tasting experience and farm tour. Learn about how cacao is grown and processed and then savor the rich history of chocolate while tasting 10 different single origin bars, all of which originate from different award winning farms around the Hawaiian Archipelago. We will also try fresh cacao juice, roasted cacao beans, cacao tea, and other delectable fruits and treats that are seasonally available around the farm.

Through this experience, you’ll come to appreciate the incredible diversity of flavor in single origin Hawaiian Craft Chocolate. Similar to the flavor differences found in wine, craft chocolate is a new frontier in the exploration of terroir - or how genetics and location work together to dramatically influence flavor.

In the cacao industry, Hawaii is known as the Napa Valley for chocolate. By joining this tour, guests will become part of an exclusive group in a flourishing new industry.

One of a kind Hawaiian experience - This was a very unique and different Hawaiian experience. Learned so much about the history and making of some of the best chocolate I’ve ever had. And the guides were so well informed and able to speak to an uninformed audience. Will definitely go back on our next trip to Hawaii.

A masterclass in chocolate - Arrive a chocolate lover, and leave a chocolate scholar! Wrenn and Colin are so passionate, you can't help but get excited. I now have a very expensive craft chocolate habit and these gentlemen are entirely to blame. Make sure you get their email before you leave the tour so they can hook you up with the Honoliʻi Orchard bars, which you won't be able to get anywhere else. Although the farm's own chocolate was my favorite, we tasted chocolate from SO many farms across the islands. I'm glad I didn't have my usual second cup of coffee and ate a good breakfast because I was buzzing from that much chocolate. I was surprised at how much I loved the agriculture and fermentation part of the tour! Colin quite literally has his Masters in cacao and it shows. We tasted cacao varieties and learned about the trees in the shady orchard just a few steps away from the tasting room (bug spray was provided, although I didn't need any). We also went to the fermentation area, which I learned is where the magic of chocolate really happens. Then, you get to taste the magic itself, right from the trees you just were. The actual tasting feels like a fine dining experience. I'll be thinking of the Pacha de Cacao for years to come. It was a perfect way to beat the noon heat in Hilo. The tour finished up around 2, and the parking for the tour is only about 5 minutes from downtown, so there was plenty of time for my friends to sightsee and hit up the rest of the Hilo attractions. I had the most memorable time. Worth every penny!

Epic Views & Exquisite Taste - Colin & Wrenn's Honolii Orchards' chocolate tasting tour was a deep dive into the evolving world of craft chocolate in an unparalleled setting. Just seeing the chocolate farm with it's breathtaking views of the Hamakua Coast and Hilo Bay was worth the time and value. But add in exquisite chocolate tasting and fascinating history lesson, and you have an unforgettable experience.

Amazing and delicious tour! - This was such a great tour! The guides, Colin and Wrenn, are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Cocoa and chocolate and all the other aspects of the plants, fermentation, and the resulting chocolate bars. The chocolate is also sooooo good! I was never a fan of dark chocolate but now I'm a huge fan of it. I highly recommend doing this tour and buying the manoa chocolate especially the Honili'i Orchards variety. And you may just get to meet Darwin, their super loving farm dog.
