The best tour from Hilo! - Alex was an incredible guide with so much knowledge and personal experience of the history! We learned a lot of information about the area that has deepened our appreciation for the land and the people. I highly recommend Alex as a guide!

Great time - We had a great tour with Dan as our guide. Dan was very knowledgeable and helpful and made sure we had plenty of time at each stop. There was one scheduled stop that we had already done so Dan offered to take us to a different location that we had casually mentioned we wanted to see. We really appreciated his flexibility. Highly recommend

Volcano National Park - Just a natural wonder to see how the earth is really made! A must see. Kimo was a really good guide.

Amazing visit and driver to go with! - Our driver John was spectacular!! We had a truly amazing time!! He took us to all the places we wanted to visit, and gave us gifts at each stop, either Portuguese donuts, macadamia nuts, and other treats. I highly recommend this trip with Viator and this specific company and driver!!

Excellent Guide - Alex the tour guide was knowledgeable, friendly and could not have been more helpful. My only issue is that it’s probably a bit expensive.

Refund for compassionate reasons denied - This is less a critique than a word of caution about refunds for compassionate reasons. I had booked and prepaid the tour prior to leaving Canada. At the first tour stop, 10 minutes from the Hilo port pick-up location, I was feeling ill. My husband and I felt it was best to request a return to port so as not to inconvenience anyone in the 10 passenger van should we get further away and I needed medical assistance. The driver, Dan, kindly advised it was no big deal to return us to the port -- we were that close. Given the unforeseen circumstances, I requested a full or partial refund (when you book through Viator, you can request a refund for exceptional and unforeseen circumstances). The answer to my request was a resounding no from Mahalini Tours. So I was charged $854 CAD for a trip we could not take. I would have been happy with even a partial refund, but they were not interested in even considering it. Viator tried to intervene on my behalf to no avail. The whole experience left me feeling very disappointed about customer service and Mahalini Tours. Lesson learned. I would not prebook anything with this company.
