Additional Information

Embark on an exclusive tour of Hawaii Island’s lone Salt Farm – recently showcased on Guy Fieri’s show. Our facility, set on a stunning 7-acre waterfront property, resides within the Hawaii Ocean Science & Technology Park and occupies a historic salt mining region utilized by Hawaiians for many ages.

Our Lead Salt Maker marries ancestral techniques and modern technology: she is renowned for hand-harvesting the only salt derived from Deep Ocean Waters, originating as far as 2,200 feet beneath the surface.

On the tour, your guide will familiarize you with the site’s history, the significance of salt in Hawaiian culture, our unique salt production methodology, and the long journey our pristine, mineral-rich waters undertook through deep-sea currents before reaching us.

The tour culminates with a tasting session where you can sample our diverse variants of salt, both flavored and smoked.

We also offer Cold Deep Ocean Water Foot Soaks as an additional service. Plus, if our tour doesn’t fit into your itinerary, feel free to stop by our shop anytime.

Definitely Worth a Visit - This tour was recommended by a couple we met on a sunset cruise. We were so grateful to them for the recommendation. The tour guide was lovely, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about the salt that is being created in this facility. I highly recommend that anyone go to this tour. We ended up purchasing many types of salts made at the facility.

Welcoming, Informative and Tasty - This was a fun and informative place to visit. I liked that our tour guide included some of the history and culture along with the art and science of salt making. The tour included a tasting of the salt which was delicious and helpful for what flavor combo might fit into your kitchen the best. Our favorites were the Orange salt, garlic salt and the Chile pepper salt. Our guide was welcoming and epitomized Hospitality, even remembering our names. Not a Con but worth mentioning is that the drive out there and the approach to the parking lot will make you question if you have somehow wandered off course and into an off-limits industrial area. It's Fine, keep going!

So glad we did this tour! - So glad we did this tour! It was very interesting and informative, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and a joy to listen to. We experienced the foot soak, which was very cold, thoroughly enjoyed the tour and our tastings of various salts. The facility is great, the shop offering lots of items to purchase. The beach is gorgeous with black lava flow rocks to the amazingly blue ocean. I highly recommend!

Surprisingly educational - Highly educational. Amazing to see the process very upclose. The small staff are highly invested in every aspect of this venture. They were very informative about each step required to extract salt from 2200 feet deep in the ocean, while also assuring their care for the environment. The tasting of a variety of salts at the end of the tour was surprisingly good. We left with a selection that delighted my wife and has added some excellent added flavor to our food at home. Don't miss the experience of the foot soak afterwards. It was rejuvenating after our several previous days of walking the island.

Amazing Tour - Wonderful tour. Very informative. Lats of informaion about how the ocean water is collected (from 2,200 feet; 670.5 meters) and processed. The farm waste nothing, even the by-products and waste are used. The tour ends with a salt tasting. There were about ten different salts to sample on tomatoes, cucumber, and pineapple. Unfortunately for me, the only one I will eat is pineapple. An excellent tour that I would highly recommend.
