Highlights
  • Honokaa - Guided horse tour of a traditional Hawaiian Ahupa’a. The tour begins at WOH Ranch, a working livestock ranch and farm operation sharing exclusive views of enchanting Hamakua. This scenic opportunity allows travel through a traditional land division (Ahupua’a) that stretches from the mountain to the ocean and is home to native flora and fauna. Surrounding gardens radiate fertility as you drive alongside fishponds full of Hamakua sunfish on your tour. Dwarf coconuts, breadfruit trees, kukui nut, sugar cane, taro, sweet potato and multiple varieties of heirloom bananas are just some of the plants you will see before riding alongside the historic Hamakua ditch. Our WOH Ranch Tour is ocean-bound; taste salt on the wind and hear waves pound against the sheer cliffs while we cruise under a canopy of ironwood trees near remnants of old Hawaiian settlements. At the ocean, we kick back and relax for a short break to appreciate the stunning Hamakua coastline. On a clear day you can see Maui!

A little slice of paradise! - Wow, a tropical paradise to behold! Total serenity. I had never before seen this rare combination of rolling hills and meadows in front of the gorgeous backdrop of the Pacific ocean. Our guides Micah and Moses did a great job helping a newby horse rider like me feel confident and at ease. What a great experience! Highly recommended.

Ride with ocean views and breeze - Great guides and scenery. You’ll learn a lot about the land and about all the things they grow on the farm. The horses were calm and easy and seemed to be well cared for.

Wonderful horses! Great guides! Beautiful location! - As horse owners and 6 riders from novice to experienced this ride was perfection. First and foremost the horses were healthy, strong yet calm trail horses and were clearly well cared for, second the views from this expansive ranch was beautiful. Tess and Kiana were super friendly and great guides- so knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. At the end the girls cut up some of the fruits from their orchards... white pineapple... the best! Then we all had to play with their very sweet cats. A perfect morning! Stop at their fruit stand to stock up on fruits!!! We will be back🥰

Best part of my trip! - The ride at Waipi’o on horseback was the best part of my trip. Our guides, Tess and Micah were great! There were 7 people on our ride. Tess was our front guide and very knowledgeable about the beautiful 600 acre ranch. The horses were well mannered. We had a chance to trot and canter if we desired. If I ever return to Kona, I will definately be doing another ride here.

Hawai’i Horseback Riding - It was a great morning. The guides were very knowledgeable and attentive. It’s a long ride especially if you’re not used to being on a horse. With that being said it was well worth it for the views.

Best Horseback Ride - My wife an dI have been coming to the Big Island each year in Febraury since 2008. A "must do" on our list is a horseback excursion and we've done them all. While we have done the Waipio Valley version of this excursion in the past, this was out first time doinog the mountain ride across the ranch - it was by far the best one we've expereince yet. If you want to ride, this will not disappoint.
