Highlights
  • Ponte della Maddalena (also known as Devil’s Bridge) - As an American residing in Italy for 9 months each year, many travelers are curious about how to become a “snowbird” and enjoy part of the year in Tuscany. We’ll walk to the Devil’s Bridge as I give you a tour of my town, Borgo a Mozzano, located at the start of the Garfagnana. I’ll share insights on living in Tuscany and why I chose this lifestyle. We’ll have a wine tasting at a local winery and savor the best aspects of being here. I’ll answer your questions on selecting a place and preparing for such a move. We’ll discuss cultural differences, even if you’re an Italian American, as understanding these differences is crucial.
  • Borgo a Mozzano - We’ll visit a local winery where you can choose a bottle of wine after a tasting.
  • Borgo a Mozzano - We’ll continue our conversation in a Palazzo built in 1200. My spacious apartment features Chestnut Wood Ceilings, original tiled floors, and marble fireplaces. You’ll get a feel for living in a Palazzo as we discuss finding a place to live, negotiating a lease, and other essentials for part-time living in Italy. With changes happening in Tuscany, I’ll guide you on making informed choices about Gas and Electric Companies. I’ll also help you create a realistic budget and avoid getting swept up in the romanticism of living in Tuscany.

Additional Information

I am a retired American woman that wanted a more exciting retirement then the over 55 communities offered. I have traveled to Italy for many years and loved the food, wine, the people and the sense of family that still exists today. So after the pandemic, I decided to sell my home in Tucson AZ, and move here for 9 months of the year. And you can use the same method I did even if you are only going to stay for 6 months.

I will meet you at the train station in Borgo a Mozzano. The train from Lucca is only 20 minutes and then you step off the train in a very beautiful small town at the gateway to The Garfagnana. I will meet you at the station and we will walk my town and show you how life works when you are here full time and not a tourist. Then we will return to my apartment in a large Palazzo dating from 1200. I will answer your questions and give you a booklet that explains everything we will talk about over local wine and snacks.

Exceptional Service! Thank You! - I recently had the pleasure of being assisted by Angie at the Southwest Airlines ticket counter in Louisville, KY / SDF Airport while trying to fly back to Houston, TX, during Hurricane Beryl. Angie was professional, warm, and attentive, ensuring that all our needs were met efficiently and with a smile. Her top-notch service was truly commendable and not often seen these days. Thank you, Angie, for making our ever-changing flight plans more pleasant. Thanks,
