Highlights
  • Friet Museum - On the ground floor you can learn about the fascinating history of the potato which originated in Peru more than 10,000 years ago.

On the first floor, the visitor can discover the history of the fries and how they came to Belgium and in the basement of the building, in the medieval cellars, it is even possible to sample some.

The Frietmuseum completes the choice of museums in harmony with all the others which the town of Bruges has to offer and allows the visitor to discover the origins of one of the greatest Belgian culinary specialities, of which we are very proud: potato fries.

The museum was created by the families Cédric and Eddy Van Belle who also created in Bruges the Belgian chocolate museum, Choco-Story, and the domestic lighting museum, Lumina Domestica.

Great experience with tasting the perfect Belgian fries - At last I was able to visit the museum with my teenage daughter. I enjoyed my visit a lot. I learned where our patatoes came from and how they were cultivated and so much more Off course I'm very interested in the 19th century and was very happy to see what they used to make the first Belgian fries. And I could find out how the perfect fries are fried and I tasted them as well in the cellar. They tasted perfectly. You could also watch them beeing made. It was a great experience for een Belgische frietjes fan.

Excellent excursion - Nice museum that starts on the history of the potato to follow on the fries in all its states. There are also sets and interactive games that will appeal to young and old.

Nice museum, you must have seen. - Nice museum which starts with a boring story about potatoes. You have to go through that and then you enter the world of fries... At the end of course ate a fries.

Take time to slow down and read the information! - My advice for this museum? Slow down. relax. Take the time to read the displays. It's very interesting! You get a little machine that reads you bits of info about each section and you do learn some interesting and unusual things! Once you have done the downstairs section, there are some more interactive bits upstairs, including some giant singing potatoes and trust me, you'll still be singing "We are fries, we're not French" for days afterwards! Ha! We liked it as a mixed little group of middle aged and early 20s people. My daughter bought a "stress potato" in the gift shop for 4 Euro. She loves it! It's the little things! Ha ha!

Great experience for French fry and potato lovers - Oddly satisfying experience. Before coming here I had no idea that potatoes and French fries have an interesting history. It's opened my eyes on the wars behind potatoes and how processed our potatoes are. It's something I've never thought of before coming here. There are many interactive spaces in the museum and a French fired themed restaurant at the underground part of the museum and a shop to buy merch. Overall this was a satisfying experience and highly recommend coming here if you want to try something new or experience something new.

Simpa tour - Museum tracing the arrival of the potato very interesting Audio Guide offered at the entrance with different languages Staff at the reception not very friendly Aging museum would need renovation and modernity Not attractive enough for children No free fries tasting but fries cones to buy at the end of the tour too bad

Miscommunication - Museum did not have our reservation despite the email from Viator providing me with the receipt of payment, letting me know to get the tickets from the museum directly for that day and time the museum was initially not willing to let me in without paying again, however eventually let us in, but they explain they will need to follow up with Viator to try and get payment from them since their system did not recognize that we had booked and paid Despite paying Several days before the visit

Very unpleasant staff - Everything starts at the reception the person present on July 7 is unpleasant and then as we were a big group she tried to rip us off on the number of meals when we had paid before obliged I advise against as long as this person will be present she is really very incorrect with the customers. A shame.
