Embark on a private Bucharest City Tour in an elegant minibus and explore key attractions like the Palace of Parliament, Bucharest National Village Museum, and more. Join us now!

Duration: 4 hours, 30 minutes
Cancellation: 24 hours
Highlights
  • Palace of Parliament - During the Bucharest City Tour at the Palace of Parliament, also known as the People’s House, visitors will gain insight into the dangers and detrimental effects of a totalitarian regime like communism on a nation. The sheer scale of the building’s extravagant opulence and the megalomania it represents will leave one feeling small, showcasing what “the sleep of reason” can produce.

Imagine having the opportunity to visit the second largest administrative building in the world, second only to the Pentagon, and creating memories to share with future generations.

  • “Dimitrie Gusti” National Village Museum - On the Bucharest City Tour, visitors will explore The National Village Museum, which encapsulates Romanian traditions in one location. It offers a glimpse into how Romanian villagers historically built eco-friendly and sustainable environments in their backyards, living a simple and modest lifestyle in harmony with their surroundings.

By booking a private guide in Bucharest, visitors can delve into the world of traditional Romanian houses, whether large or small, constructed from wood, adobe, stone, and other materials from across the country. National symbols like the mill and wooden church are also on display, illustrating how these spiritual and cultural treasures have united Romanians for millennia without the need for conquest.

  • Calea Victoriei - On Calea Victoriei (Victory Avenue), a private guide will reveal the fascinating contradictions of history: the Royal Palace on one side and the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party and Revolution Square on the other, where Ceausescu fled by helicopter.

Visitors will encounter old orthodox churches shrouded in mystery, a music store with a vast selection, as well as casinos, bohemian restaurants, museums, theatres, tea shops, retail and gift stores for souvenirs, and notable landmarks like the National History Museum, the Romanian Athenaeum, and the CEC Palace.

  • Piaka Revolukiei - Revolution Square, Bucharest

This private tour delves into the era of communism, transporting visitors back to the time when dictator Nicolae Ceausescu was overthrown, leaving behind secrets of a vast fortune and controversies surrounding the state security service and his offshore accounts.

As previously mentioned, upon reaching the Senate Palace, visitors will see the former headquarters of the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party, the site where the December 1989 Revolution began—a pivotal historical event marked by human courage and sacrifice that led to Ceausescu’s removal from power.

  • Old Town - In the next stop, with a private guide from Nicolas Experience Tours, visitors can experience the charm of the past through the mystery and contrasts of the Historical City Centre’s streets, starting with Hanul Lui Manuc, a massive fortified inn that once served as a cultural and economic hub. Built around 1806 by Manuc Bei, a wealthy Balkan landowner, it was a gathering place for merchants passing through Bucharest, part of the vibrant crowd that frequented the historic inn.

In this historic and cosmopolitan area, visitors will find not only Bucharest’s most popular restaurants but also museums, old and stunning churches, and an experiential library offering books, music, and other souvenirs for an unforgettable experience.

  • Ateneul Roman - A concert hall located in the heart of Bucharest, Romania, and a significant landmark of the capital city. Opened in 1888, this ornate, domed, circular building is the city’s most esteemed concert hall, home to the “George Enescu” Philharmonic and the George Enescu Festival.

Great Tour & Tour Guide! - Our private tour of Bucharest was a perfect 4 hours with our tour guide Dan. An on-time and friendly greeting at our hotel kicked off a pleasant early-morning walking tour of Old Town where we began to learn about the rich and also challenged history of this country. Visiting a Christian Orthodox church during their Sunday service was an unexpected treat. On the driving tour of the city we visited every key landmark, including Parliament, which is a sight to behold. A relaxing walking tour of the Village Museum was so interesting to see replica/original homesteads from every part of Romania — from the countryside to the coast. A stop for some exquisite eclairs and coffee at a cafe was appreciated before closing with stops at the Nicolae Ceaușescu museum and the Central Committee building where we could further reflect on the past politics and struggles this country and its people faced for many years. Dan had a first-person perspective and was so incredibly knowledgeable about the city, country and its culture. And, he sent us off with a fantastic lunch recommendation at the City Grill in Old Town. Don’t let the name fool you — it’s 100% authentic Romanian food; and, it was delicious. We highly recommend this tour and Dan as a tour guide!

If you only have a short time in Romania its worth it to make the most of your time - This tour gives you a good view of the major parts of the city. The guide is very knowledgeable and I very much enjoyed talking with him. During the tour my wife and I got a very good understanding of the history of the city, culture of the people, and the difference between rich and poor parts. Only regret I have is we did not get to walk inside the Parliament building, I thought this was part of the tour but if your interested in this I would tell them in advance.

Great stops, Great tour guide teacher - This 4-hour tour is the best way to see a lot of Bucharest highlights in less than 1 day. While you could see these stops yourself, having your tour guide to teach you about the sites and share their knowledge of Bucharest and Romanian history really adds to the experience to make it worth the organized tour. For me, this was the beginning of a long trip and it was the best way to start seeing Bucharest.
