Want to learn about and get the most out of Romania? Take this tour! - The original plan was to fly from Budapest to Bucharest and tour Romania by way of individual day trips, then fly back. With the price of fuel the way it was and the cost of everything going up, we wondered whether we could just do a one-way tour from Budapest to Romania and this tour fit the bill on both paper and in practice. Our tour guide, Marius, was a total pro. He was very, very knowledgeable at every stop (whether it be historical knowledge, common knowledge, current affairs, or random trivia), but is experienced enough to be open about giving us the space to explore on our own (but equally open to giving you more info/guidance). I guess what I’m saying is he makes you feel comfortable enough to ask for what you want in a tour guide. He’s also not a robot: he has a warm personality, loves Romania, and the tour company takes great care to form special relationships with every stop on the itinerary to make you feel like a VIP. About the itinerary, itself: most folks who choose tours like this feel like they didn’t get enough out of it… whether it’s more time at one stop or wishing one location was on it that wasn’t. We did NOT feel that way at all. We had more than enough time at each stop and we didn’t feel like we were missing out on the rest of Romania for what we were paying. About the accommodations: we got to stay with a family in their guest house and be treated to Romanian breakfast and dinners that were amazing, homey, and full of conversation with some of the other great tour guides and guests. We felt welcome and cared for, which goes to show the work and relationships this company tries to forge to insure their clients have an authentic Romanian cultural experience. If you want to get the most of Romania in a relatively short amount of time, we cannot recommend this tour enough. Ask for Marius and tell them Evelyn & Dave from New York City sent you! We love them for giving us a wonderful vacation experience and the incredible impression we have of Romania is due in no small part to their efforts.
