Highlights
  • Great / Central Synagogue (Nagy Zsinagoga) - Delve into the grandeur of the Dohány Street Synagogue, the most expansive synagogue in Europe, guided by an expert in Jewish Studies. Admire the opulent Moorish Revival architecture before exploring the Temple of Heroes, the Jewish Museum, and a Memorial Park, all situated within the synagogue’s grounds.
  • Kazinczy Street Synagogue - Make your way to the adjacent Ghetto Wall Memorial, unveiled in 2014, then proceed past an ornate Mikve (Jewish ritual bath) en route to the Art Nouveau-style orthodox synagogue on Kazinczy Street.
  • Rumbach Street Synagogue - Uncover the narrative of the Status Quo Ante Jewish denomination while visiting the Rumbach Street Synagogue.
  • Shoes on the Danube Bank - Finish by offering tributes at the Shoes on the Danube Bank, a poignant memorial established on April 16, 2005, to commemorate the Jewish victims executed here during the Second World War. They were forced to remove their shoes before being shot at the river’s edge, their bodies then swept away by the current. The memorial symbolizes the shoes they left behind on the bank.

Endre is the BEST - Endre was the most knowledgeable tour guide we have ever had. He brought us to so many informative spots that told the story of the Jewish Quarter. He was attentive, helpful, and highly intelligent. We are so lucky to have met him and had him as our guide.

Good, excellent, friendly, lovely enthusiastic, historical, knowledge, lovely, Jewish, friendly, worthy, we liked it a l - Kata is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the Jewish and Hungarian history. We asked her a lot of questions and she was very kind to answer all of that. At the date we booked the tour, one of the Jewish church was not open, so she took us to a lovely museum to see Jewish life from 1500 to 1900, it was very interesting. We liked her so much so that we asked her to take her to the Buda castle on the next day.

Highest recommendation - Another informative and entertaining tour. Andras brought the history of the Jewish community in Budapest into vivid focus. Not only beautiful but poignant and heartbreaking. The synagogue is amazingly beautiful and Andras was very knowledgable about its history and the symbolism of its design. He gave me a much better understanding of the Jewish faith. The highlight for me was the tree of life and its engraved petals. A tribute both to the horror of the Holocaust and the hope of life.

Extraordinary guide - Kata made Budapest's Jewish history come alive for us with her genuine enthusiasm and knowledge. We were blown away by the beauty and atmosphere of the synagogues. The combination of her tour with the Downtown Pest tour we took on our first day gave us such a vivid picture of Budapest. Thank you.

Best Highlight of Our Trip to Budapest - an InsightCities Tour! - I have used InsightCities guides on many of my trips. When I knew I was going to Budapest with my daughter, I immediately searched to see what tours Insight Cities had there. We were so fortunate to have Eszter as our guide. I cannot image what this trip would have been like without the tour. We gained so much insight into the history of Budapest and the Jewish community.
