Highlights
  • Kazinczy Street Synagogue - Much of Hungarian cuisine is deeply rooted in Jewish history and tells the resilient story of their people. To better understand the influence that the Jewish community had on the food culture in Budapest, our tour will begin at a synagogue with a brief introduction from an expert guide.
  • Jewish Quarter - Home to the biggest synagogue in Europe, Budapest’s 7th district was once the city’s Jewish neighbourhood. Nowadays, this neighbourhood is known for its vibrant nightlife where you’ll find iconic “ruin bars” and restaurants”. They’re now a trend on social media but they are still deeply connected to the district’s Jewish roots. You’ll wander the streets with your local guide who will tell you about this history and how it relates to Hungarian cuisine before experiencing authentic street food. Leave your knives, forks, and dining etiquette at home because you’ll be eating on the street like a local before heading to some sit-down spots.
  • Andrassy Avenue - After experiencing the bohemian side of the city, time to explore the other side of Budapest—one with a bit more glamour and style. Your guide will lead you down the city’s most expensive streets where you’ll head to atmospheric restaurants to try traditional Hungarian dishes. We’ll finish off the tour with a sweet treat before you continue the night with your newfound friends!

Additional Information

You might as well call Budapest “Food-a-pest” because the Hungarian capital is buzzing with delicious restaurants, and we’ll help you eat like a local. The tour starts at an old synagogue, offering a great introduction to the history of Hungarian cuisine since much of the food is heavily influenced by Jewish culture and tradition.

The tour is divided into two parts so you get the best of both worlds when it comes to the city’s gastronomic scene. First, you’ll try some delicious street food such as traditional Hungarian soup and Lángos, a deep-fried flatbread. You’ll soak in the eccentric atmosphere of the city’s party streets before heading to fancier spots for a sit-down meal. You’ll try Hungarian classics like nokedli dumplings and Flódni, a Jewish-Hungarian pastry. And of course, every food tour is better when you’re a little bit tipsy. You’ll also sample alcoholic beverages like Pálinka and sweet wine from Tokaji, Hungary’s famed wine region.

  • Only 18 years old above will be served alcohol
