Highlights
  • Central Market Hall - Preparing delicious authentic dishes together with friends or family from fresh local ingredients is a defining part of Hungarian tradition.

With this experience I’m hoping to create and share some of these moments with you, so hopefully you’ll walk away full, with new and amazing recipes and memories of Hungary.

We’ll meet up at the front of the iconic Central Market Hall of Budapest and gather fresh seasonal ingredients from local merchants depending on the season and availability.

After we’ve acquired the ingredients for the dish, we’ll take a short 5-minute walk to a “Budapest” style flat, and we’ll get ready for cooking!

Before we begin preparing the dish, we’ll snack from some of the ham, sausage or cheeses that we earlier bought from the market.

The plan is to learn to make one traditional dish, based on family recipes from Hungary and Transylvania.

Once the dish is cooking, I’ll bring out my collection of Hungarian Post cards from the 1900’s that will show you how Hungary looked a 100 years ago, and if you like one, you can even keep it as a unique memory!

(Ingredients, drinks and snacks are all included in the price!)

What's Included
  • Carbonated beverages
  • One authentic post card of your choosing from the 1900’s
  • Snacks
  • Lunch
  • All fees and/or taxes

Food market and cooking - This was by far one of our highlights out of our whole trip! George was phenomenal, explaining everything about the food market, having us taste all the pickled vegetables one of the vendors provided him with., tasting the traditional Palinka that his family makes. We then went back to his beautiful kitchen and all helped prepare the meal, eat appetizers of cheeses and sausages, cook the goulash that was his grandmothers recipe ( best ever) and enjoyed eating this meal with different wines and more Palinka. George was super friendly and we’d redo this experience all over again!

Great Cooking Class - Simply wonderful. Chef George lead us in making Chicken Paprikash which was delicious. It will be added to our home recipe list. More importantly, he was a welcoming host and made us feel like family. He is a wealth of knowledge about Hungarian life. 5 stars is inadequate. It should be 6 or 7 at least.

Best time in Budapest - We had the best time cooking with George. Shopping at the market together was just the beginning of our great time. He shared his homemade Palinka and we got to sample some pickled fruit and vegetables in the market before returning to George's new apartment. He treated us to some delicious wine, bread, cheese, and various sausages. We then cooked chicken paprikash. Everyone in our group agreed that this was the highlight of our time in Budapest.

Foodapest is the best. - Our host, George, was amazing! He led us thru the Main Market and bought all the fresh ingredients for our chicken paprikash with dumplings. Great instructions on how to cook the dinner, which included wonderful local wines. Got to walk thru the local neighborhood. Kitchen was very clean and had all the space and tools to prepare the dinner and eat it. Great hands on experience. A most highly recommended experience!
