Highlights
  • Budapest - Palace District (Palota Negyed, VIII).

Combine food, drinks, and history during this evening out in one of Budapest’s most charming and fascinating neighborhoods, the Palace Quarter (Palota Negyed, in the eight district). The magnificent old palaces in this neighborhood perfectly communicate the history of Hungary from the 1800s through the present. You’ll eat and drink well on this tour, while experiencing the laid-back vibes and stunning architecture of this neighborhood, which is now home to several universities.

  • Tasting Table Budapest - We’ll meet at the wine cellar for an introduction to the neighborhood, a wine tasting with our sommelier (3 wines), and a selection of local cheese and charcuterie.
  • Budapest - Palace District (Palota Negyed, VIII).

After meeting at the Tasting Table, where our sommelier will introduce you to some wines (paired with a platter of charcuterie and local cheeses), we’ll graze on a variety of dishes and drinks at five more venues in the district. Other tasting stops include snacks at a bakery run by a family who has been in the business since 1870; a pálinka inside a fun courtyard bar; gulyás and appetizers at a neighborhood bistro; and dessert at an old coffeehouse.

What's Included
  • Visits to various venues in downtown Pest, including the Jewish Quarter and Andrássy Avenue areas
  • English-speaking, food-specialized guide
  • Multiple stops for photos and questions
  • Generous food and drink tastings (no need for dinner reservations!)
What's Not Included
  • Gratuities
Additional Information

Many of this neighborhood’s charms are obvious—the architecture is stunning, the many universities add a unique vibrancy, the history is ever-present, and there are plenty of cool cafés, art galleries, and shops. This neighborhood is justly a favorite for international film shoots (who use it as a standby for other locales), and hardly a week goes by that there’s not a film being shot on these streets.

When we are not eating and drinking, we’ll stroll through the elegant area which lies between the inner and outer ring roads—including the gardens of the National Museum, where aristocrats built their palatial homes in the 19th and early 20th centuries (the golden age of Budapest), and café-lined streets with more Bohemian vibes. As per our usual style, our evening of exploration will combine food and drinks, with historical and cultural stories about the buildings and people important to the neighborhood.

Come wine and dine in this most special part of Budapest with us!

A pleasant evening - A very enjoyable evening . We started off with a tutored tasting of 3 excellent Hungarian wines with Carlo( sp?,) a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic sommelier, accompanied with cheese, sausage and something new to us, bread dipped in pumpkin seed oil. Anika ( sp?) led us on the tour of the Palace district of Pest with an excellent historical and social commentary. We visited a pub in the student district for a froccs, a charming patio restaurant for goulash and a generous charcuterie platter with accompanying wines, a Palinka bar and finished the evening at the historical Astoria cafe for a lovely dessert platter. This was a walking tour, and having just arrived in Budapest, we found this a very pleasant way to help get over jet lag

Insight into Hungary via Food and Drink - The tour is another fun and fulfilling activity from Taste Hungary--we've done four over two trips to Budapest. It starts with a mini-lesson and tasting of Hungarian wine and cheeses in their tasting room, then out for soup at a tiny counter, a visit to a ruins bar for a drink and tour, a trip around the synagogue, an entree at a traditional restaurant, and finally dessert and coffee in a historic coffee house. The guide provided us interesting information on the architecture and buildings in the area, history, and a view into Hungarian culture via their food and drink. An evening well spent and everyone went home well fed.

Nice tour of the neighbourhood from a great local business! - We have lived in Budapest for the last four years - on the same road as the Tasting Table store and cellar (part of Taste Hungary). We got to meet Gabor, Carolyn and many of the staff over the years and attended various tasting events - they've never let us down. In July 2024, we had a friend visting us in Budapest and decided it would be fun to try the wine walk and tour of our neighbourhood. Again, an excellent experience. Our tour guide, Sarlotta was very knowledgeable and a really fun, cool person. We learned a lot of new things about the Palace quarter. Wine & food great, as always!

Budapest Dinner Walk - This was a great way to see the city and get the high points of the places to go. We were able to taste the Hungarian dishes and finish with the traditional Hungarian desserts.

Food, wine, information and walking - What a great combination - we were lucky enough to have one guide between the two of us, she made the night, very knowledgeable, fun and took us to the largest ruin bar on the way past too - highly recommend. I booked a wine tasting for tomorrow evening for my mum and daughter but didn't realise there's a discount for returning customers so look out for that if it applies
