Highlights
  • Buenos Aires - This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Meet your hosts Josefina and Ignacio at their late 19th century apartment located in Recoleta, with lovely views of the city’s central boulevard leading to the obelisco. Start with a welcome drink of wine or a cocktail and a small appetizer such as a Josefina’s homemade pickled eggplant dip. Josefina will lead your cooking class in their kitchen where you will learn to prepare three seasonal, gourmet Argentinian dishes from scratch. Then sit down together at their communal dining table to enjoy a modern, 4-course gourmet meal, which will feature a starter such as beetroot carpaccio with blue cheese and a balsamic reduction, followed by a first course such as panko-fried shrimp on a couscous tower, topped with a herb sauce. For your main course, enjoy fresh Argentinian beef tenderloin, served with a mandarin and ginger sauce alongside creamy potatoes. End your meal with a sweet dessert of dark chocolate mousse with caramelized fruits, and coffee or tea. Bread and filtered water will also be available.

Cuisine, conversation and culture - When we travel, we love to take a cooking classes, giving us the opportunity to cook (and eat!) local cuisine, as well as make new friends around the world. Josefina and Ignacio were very gracious and accommodating. For example, my wife is vegetarian and I eat meat. Josefina planned the menu to include foods we could both eat and enjoy. We started with an amazing pickled eggplant that we could not get enough of (and made enough to bring 2 jars home with us!). We then moved on to making meat, corn, and vegetable empanadas from scratch. And while the empanadas were cooking, we prepared a caramel flan for dessert. Then we sat down for a great meal, wonderful conversation and wine. It was a magical way to start our visit to Buenos Aires. And, with recipes in hand for all the dishes we made, we can hardly wait to have our own "empanada night" at home!

This was our favorite travel experience so far. - This was a fantastic way to experience Argentinian cuisine. Our host Josephina and her partner were most friendly and outgoing. She walked us through the creation of a multi course Argentinian menu while he ensured we always had full wine and drink glasses. The meal was fantastic and the company and conversation even better. We learned so much about Buenos Aires from a local perspective. We left feeling like we had spent the evening with friends. We would highly recommend this experience, especially with the hosts we had.
