Highlights
  • Samoni Retaill Farmer Market - Noisy and colorful place. Part of the bazaar is occupied by a household flea market, and part by food stalls. Oriental bazaar with the shouts of traders, chaotic movement, the smell of spices, and the aromas of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Silk Road Teahouse - Located discreetly on Khakikat Street, which is one of the bustling main thoroughfares in Bukhara’s Old Town, you’ll find The Silk Road Tea House. This charming family-run establishment invites you to savor authentic spiced teas and coffee and offers an introduction to Uzbek traditional treats. This family-run tea house is one of Bukhara’s most underrated attractions and is worth a visit for the aroma alone.
  • History of Bukhara Puppet Theatre - The Puppet Museum in Bukhara is a quaint, welcoming space that houses an exclusive collection of Uzbek theatrical puppets, not to be mistaken for mere children’s playthings. This remarkable museum-workshop owes its existence to its founder, Iskandar Khakimov. Initially, Khakimov envisioned creating a performance to showcase Uzbek traditions, and in due course, these handcrafted puppets began to take the place of live actors.
  • Blacksmith Workshop - One of the main activities of the Bukhara museum-preserve is to revive and support traditional Bukharan handicrafts. The museum-workshop has swords, knives, arrowheads, and craftsmen’s instruments.
  • Toqi Zargaron - In 1569-70, the largest surviving shopping arcade in Bukhara, Toki Zargaron (“the dome of jewelers”), was built. This is an impressive building, featuring a dome passage that serves as a vault above the roadway, along with a gallery for shops and repair shops. The dome of Toki Zargaron housed 36 workshops and jewelers’ shops. The dome covers of Toki Zargaron are simple and precise, without any decorative elements, as everything is designed with a focus on the building’s logic.
  • Toqi Telpakfurushon - In the dome Toki Telpak Furushon, one could buy luxurious headdresses: gold-embroidered skullcaps, fur caps, cunningly rolled turbans. Five streets converged to the building.

At first, books were traded here, but later there was the trade of male, female, and children’s headgear, skullcaps, shawls, turbans, and fur hats. There were also niches, storerooms, and hangars. The western passage of Toki Telpak Furushon leads to the street Mehtar Ambar. The first building on the right is Kuleta, the ancient caravanserai (16th century). A little forward is the Kurpa Mosque. And the Mullo Tursunjon Madrasah is almost at the end of the street.

  • Toki Sarrofon - The trading dome of Bukhara Toki Sarrafon is situated on the ancient canal Shohrud. Under this dome, “money dealers” - “sarrafs” - money changers, were sitting with their hand-held safes and boxes. Several centuries ago, they exchanged money for merchants from around the world and also conducted usurious operations. Usurious operations were conducted exclusively by Hindus or Jews, since Islam categorically forbids this kind of activity.
  • Lyab-i-Hauz - Architectural ensemble Lyabi-Khauz is formed by three large monumental buildings: Kukeldash Madrasah in the north, khanaka and Nodir Divan-begi in the west, and in the east. The square was closed off with Trade Street from the south. The reservoir became the center of the old Bukhara large ensemble.

Bukhara - Nigora - We liked the city and surroundings. Everything is quite compact. Nigora knows a lot and loves her city, she will not only tell you the history of this place in an interesting way, but will also recommend restaurants and souvenir shops to suit your taste and budget.
