Bukhara is recognized as one of the oldest cities globally. It is situated along the route of the historic Silk Road trading route and was established in the 13th century B.C., under the rule of Siyavush-The King of Iran. The term ‘Bukhara’ is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘vihara’, denoting ‘monastery’. This city was formerly a bustling trading hub on the renowned Silk Road.

MAI PIU' SILK ROAD TRAVELLERS. - I bought a day tour of Bukhara with an Italian guide from Civitatis but the voucher said that the local service provider was "Silk Road Travellers". From the outset it was evident that the guide, a young girl of just over twenty, knew very little about the Italian language but the worst thing is that she also knew very little about the history of Uzbekistan in general and Bukhara in particular. For everything he showed us he really told us two words and moreover in bad Italian that we were struggling to understand. We did not understand if the problem was his lack of knowledge of Italian or his lack of knowledge of the history of what he made us see. He didn't even show us everything that was scheduled, he left us at 13.30 instead of 15, we were not even given the water that was scheduled, which would be nothing if the tour had lived up to what we paid, which is 150 euros. You can imagine the anger when we met the other Italian guides who spoke perfect Italian and really knew their work. We pointed out to our guide that she was not up to the job and she shyly confessed that she had only been doing it for two months. Back at the hotel I forwarded a complaint to Civitatis who informed me that they would contact the service provider, Silk Road Travellers. The latter communicated that the tour had gone as it should, of course lie and unprofessionalism. Nothing like this has ever happened, and yet I have travelled a lot. However in the end Civitatis offered us a refund of 25% of the service which was surely the percentage that was up to them for providing the customer to Silk Road Travellers. My advice for travelers is not to rely on this tour operator who was perhaps unlucky to make a guide work who did not know the language well or even his work but at the same time was not serious enough to admit with the customer his mistake.
