That’s why numerous customers choose us, seeking intriguing facts, a safe setting, and the opportunity to interact with the Marine Biologist.

  • Every guest must be capable of independently paddling their kayak. A prerequisite is your capacity to ingress and egress the kayak on your own, and to be able to navigate it. For novice kayakers, we strongly recommend the earlier tour.

The maximum permissible weight for each person is 220 lbs. (no exceptions), and guests’ weights will be checked on-site.

  • The owner of the service animal must provide a Licensed Life-vest by the Coast Guard for the animal. The animal must be in total control all the time. Keep in mind that there will be many people around in the dark.
  • Minimum age 6 years
  • Guest under 18 yrs of age must be accompanied by an adult

  • If one space is left, that means there is 1 space (for 1 person) on a tandem kayak (No single kayaks available). You will be accompanied by another guest on the tour.
  • All guests must arrive 30 mins before the start of the tour. The drive from San Juan can be about an hour and 20-30 mins depending on traffic. Please plan accordingly
  • Due to the immense popularity the Bio Bay tour, at times can get crowded. It’s not uncommon to meet up with other tour groups waiting to access the canal leading to the lagoon. There can be bumping other kayaks along the way. When crowded conditions warrant, Pure Adventure will provide extra guides for your safety.
  • Please keep in mind that this tour takes place in a natural environment and that the bioluminescent phenomenon, although rare, can be seen year round. The intensity of brightness is unpredictable and can vary.
  • In order to best appreciate the bioluminescent phenomena our tours run at sunset and early evening and it can get quite dark in the mangrove canal. So, if you are afraid of darkness, a first time kayaker, or have small kids we strongly suggest taking the earlier, sunset trip. This way you can see where you are going, get use to the environment and sharpen your kayaking skills

Amazing experience - This was an awesome experience. The crew was super helpful, engaging and knowledgeable. We went at the early time and getting out to the bay kayaking through the mangroves was so beautiful. It took a little while for the glow to be visible in the bay. It is more subtle than expected (for some reason I imagined a whole blue glow of the water and it’s more like tiny white twinkling stars) but as time went on, it began to become more visible. Just an fyi Kayaking back against the tide in the pitch dark was definitely very tough and the various skill levels of our group as well as other companies all coming back makes it challenging so be patient with that. Overall it was awesome and I would highly recommend!!!

Would do it again - I went on this tour with my 2 kids, 12yo girl and 17yo boy. I'm am glad we did the 6:30pm tour so we had visibility when kayaking through the canal on the way out. Kayaking back is very dark and difficult to see your surroundings, if at all. Once we made it to our destination, we waited for it to become dark. The guide gave a lesson on what we were going to see. It was informative and fun, not too high level for the kids to understand. Once it got dark, they put a tarp over the top of a few kayaks at a time. This allowed you to see the bioluminescence much more clearly. If youre shopping around, definitely go with one that uses a tarp!!! It was amazing and looked like glitter, especially when you pull your hand out of the water. Things to note: if you are chlosterphobic, this may be difficult for you, under the tarp or Kayaking back in almost complete darkness. If you are with a group and have an odd number, you will be placed with a stranger, or in my case kayak by yourself (which was cool with me!). If you come with a group, if may be difficult to stay together when Kayaking to and from if others in your tour don't follow direction and stay in a single line. This happened to me and I was separated from my kids. Not terrible, but as a single mom, my momma bear started to come out because I couldn't see them!

A little bumpy on the way back but still worth it - This tour was super cool, memorable, breathtaking, and fun. Kayaking back from the lagoon in the dark was challenging and stressful, trying to follow the light of the boat "in front of you" when there were a dozen boat lights confusing things. That being said, I would still recommend the tour. The guides were funny, knowledgeable, and personable, and the experience one of a kind.
