Tips for Siem Reap trip in July, Food, tours, currency ( money) weather, museum - We have been in Siem Reap 3 days. Here are some tips. It is currently the shoulder into the monsoon, so expect at minimum a heavy downpour at 4pm. The good side it is mainly cloudy so no hot burning sun. That means no beautiful sunrise/ sunset. And less crowds. I can’t imagine the peace and tranquility we felt at the temples yesterday in the peak season. Also it is beautiful, lush and green. A good restraunt we have discovered in Beer St is Rachana, next to Mesa. Staff are very friendly, wonderful food and menu, good draught beer and 2 for 1 cocktails. The staff are beautiful, helpful and give you little welcome tray on arrival. Everything has high levels hygiene. For $22- US we had several drinks and 2 large meals. And a pleasant evening watching the passer-by’s and chatting with the staff. Give it a try, I think you will like it. Bring some US $ with you, only excellent quality notes, no $2-. Use ATMs in banks with security guards. Some atms charge a % fee, others a set fee so if you take more $ out the fees are less. Many ATMs only stock US $ not local currency. We did a city tour on a tuk tuk the first day, a wonderful way to familiarise yourself to the town. Just with a guy off the st ,so pot luck, but adds to the fun. Please at least go to the museum before the temples. We felt we got a lot more out of the Temple tour having done this. Yesterday we did the 3 main temples by private guide and driver in car. Well worth it in the heat and you can tailor things, and so can your guide sensing your interests. You also learn a lot not just about the temples, but Cambodian life and history. The culture from the guide. Hope this helps others planning trips.🙂
