Highlights
  • Langa Heritage / Dompas Museum - We visit the Langa Dompas Museum, located in the heart of Langa, which offers visitors a poignant tribute to the heroes and victims of apartheid. This historical gem was established to commemorate the township’s centenary. The once-infamous offices of the Bantu Affairs Administration now serve as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and an important reminder of the past. We also visit the Langa Old Flats, built in 1944 as single-sex hostels for migrant workers, now inhabited by families. Langa Hostels, originally built for men during the apartheid era, now shelter many families, sometimes three in one house.
  • Guga S’thebe - Our next stop will be Guga S’Thebe Arts and Cultural Centre in Langa Township, which offers:
  1. Arts and culture training: The centre provides training in various art forms, such as metalwork, pottery, dance, arts and crafts, traditional dancing, choir training, music, and poetry.
  2. Community theatre: The centre has a community theatre where local groups can stage performances.
  3. Arts and craft shop: The centre has a shop selling local arts and crafts. It also offers accounting and secretarial services for small entrepreneurs and local businesses. The centre provides support and resources for local entrepreneurs and small businesses to start and grow their ventures. The centre aims to address unemployment in the community by providing training and support for local entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Nice and interesting experience - We had a very interesting and exciting tour! Luthando was such a great guide and taught us so much, not only about the history of Langa, but also about life and culture there. We had a lot of fun together and felt comfortable the whole time and can definitely recommend it. Thank you Luthando!

Impressive visit to township Langa: “(r)Each one, teach one” 👍 - Communication started via mail with Chippa. Then easily arranged by Whatsapp. James picked us up in the morning in Gardens, neat on time and in a neat car. James talked straight on his way to Langa, about District 6 and the forced relocation of many to the government-designated townships outside the city. Our Guide James was incredibly kind and took extensive time to tell and show us everything. With great respect. He himself lives in Langa and knows the township well, but also many people as it turned out during the walk. We have felt comfortable the whole time. Also visited a pre-school where we could hand over the footballs we had brought to different groups. Being able to play with the kids, super! Our children have experienced the visit as particularly educational. Paying after the visit was also super easy via a payment link. Would recommend anyone to visit a township if you are staying in the Cape Town area!

Walking tour of Langa - An unforgettable experience. Thanks to Chippa for organizing everything at the last minute and to Luthando for accompanying us to discover his land, where he was born and still lives. Beautiful, unique people we will never forget.

Beautiful experience in the Langa district - Chippa guided us on a very interesting and really exciting tour of the Langa district: very honest and exhaustive, she gave us a lot of information about the historical-social context and the history of Langa. Unfortunately we could not go to Robben Island in the afternoon because the tour was cancelled due to bad weather... but all in all this is a great reason to return to this wonderful city! Grazie Chippa!

A must-do in Cape Town - Thank you Chippa for showing us around Langa. Please do not hesitate to take this tour - it is something a lot of people skip when coming to Cape Town, but Chippa quickly reassured us at the beginning of the tour that everyone in Langa appreciates tourism, it helps the township and they want you to see how they live. It was humbling and eye-opening to see around Langa and everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The kids all run and give you hugs, the work the pre-school does is incredible, and the coffee shop owner's story is fascinating. You are encouraged to take photos to show the world on social media how people live in Langa, so it is not awkward to take pictures if you want to, and as I said, everyone is so welcoming. It is an experience we will never forget and I'm sure we will be back to Langa one day. Thank you again Chippa, it is one of the best tours we have ever taken anywhere in the world.

Humbling & historical township tour... - We had a terrific tour of Langa Township in April when visiting Capetown. Namhla our guide was informative and very friendly. It was a very humbling experience for our children (15 & 13) . The local children in the street were delightful, singing, dancing and playing football. I would highly recommend this tour, it was wonderful to hear the history of Langa Township and how it's moving forward and looking to the future. Had a wonderful time, was one of the highlights of our trip to South Africa.
