Highlights
  • 165 High Level Rd - Dive into the flavors of South Africa with our biltong-making workshop!

Join us in our inviting “voorkamer” (lounge) for a practical session on crafting your own biltong. We’ll guide you through every step, from choosing the perfect meat to curing and storing it.

Biltong is a South African dried meat treat, distinct from American jerky. It’s made from beef, game meat, or ostrich, and seasoned with a unique blend of South African spices.

We also have a surprisingly delicious vegan option!

You’ll also discover the rich history and culture of South Africa. Learn about the Khoisan hunter-gatherers who first created biltong, the Great Trek pioneers who added their own spices, and the English “Soutie” who married an Afrikaans “Boeremeisie.”

Enjoy a relaxed atmosphere with Boeremusiek (folk music) and lively Afrikaans songs. Pick up a few local phrases and savor some of Soutie’s homemade Karringmelkbeskuit.

Guests will receive a sample of biltong sticks to enjoy or take home, with the option to purchase more.

Don’t miss out on this unique cultural experience!

Great experience! - I got my dad a ticket as a father's day gift to this experience and Greg was so awesome in contacting both myself and my dad before the experience. My dad had such a great time with Greg and his wife and how lovely hearing how excited and happy my dad was. 😊😊 A big thanks to Greg and his wife for making this experience so awesome for my dad and for going to extra mile - so that my dad could bring some goodies back home. Thanks Greg!

A tasty cultural experience - I've participated in Soutie's Biltong Making Sessions many times and I've enjoyed every single one. It's a feast for all the senses and immerses one into a distinct part of South African culture. The host is friendly and his passion for biltong is evident, and he's eager to share tips and tricks for making your own at home. He shares additional information that enriches the experience in an easy-going manner. The session is relaxed and interactive with lots of laughs, many things to taste and much useful information about the Afrikaans language and culture. The setting is intimate and the groups are small so it's a wonderful way to get to know fellow travelers. It also impressed me that Soutie accommodated non-meat eating companions and even those with special requests
