Additional Information

Trains hold a certain inexplicable charm – it’s no surprise they serve as the backdrop for romantic encounters, whodunit tales and intricate burglaries. Perhaps it’s their ceaseless forward drive; the closeness of the limited space, or the thrill and expectancy they incite.

Nestled in an already picturesque nation, the overwhelming magnetism of the countryside pulls one closer while seated in this steam-powered train, gazing at the ever-evolving landscape.

Our passengers relish their time on the train doing their favorite activities, whether it’s socializing at the bar, reading a novel, enjoying the views, spending quality time with family, or simply closing their eyes to savor the calming noises of the railway.

Just amazing! - It was an honour and a privilege to have the opportunity to go on this very special trip. Staff were very helpful and attentive at every point: booking, finding the parking and departure point, checking in, obtaining refreshments, boarding, during the journey and after the trip. The journey must take extensive planning, but it was as smooth as if they did it every day. There were many things to take in: the different communities as you travel along the line, the jaw-dropping scenery on both sides of the train and the charms and delights of the Elgin Railway Market! If you can get to Cape Town this should be high up on your list of things to do! Please do your best to try and experience this trip - you’ll never forget it!

A perfect way to soak in the beauty and have a really fun filled day out. Relaxing and great fun for all ages. - Highly recommend this outing! Staff are amazing! Well informed, friendly and accommodating. I was particularly charmed with several rubbish collection rounds performed by staff. I live in Cape Town and I am very familiar with the Elgin region, but this trip really allows one to fully enjoy the glorious views in a the most charming manner. The market is everything you would expect from an epicurean weekend market with live music and sleeping cats.

An experience to be remembered forever. - An outstanding day, meeting and beating all our expectations. My septuagenarian partner was beautifully childlike in her excitement on the wonderful train ride, enjoyed in our own old-fashioned carriage coupe. The railway market was a delight - so outstandingly created in art-deco style to resemble a train station from the early 1900s. Ceres Rail staff were beyond exceptional - helpfulness, attentiveness and friendliness personified. 1000% all round!

Great Experience - This was a very good experience. However it was disappointing to see people who have not paid for bar lounge sit there through out the trip. That should not be allowed. It's unfair that we paid R900 each and they paid half of that to enjoy the comfort. The bar was stocked well however, it would be nice to have other wines apart from only pinotage. The time at the market was too short. We barely had time to shop, it was only enough to buy food and eat
