The core of Shadowbrook is a log cabin originally built as a summer home in the 1920s. It was later expanded by an English family who added the “Fireside Room,” featuring a hanging balcony and Swiss chalet decor. The home was eventually sold to another family who abandoned it a few years later for unknown reasons.
When the restaurant’s original partners found the house in 1944, it was in ruins. It took them three years of meticulous work to restore it. They then carved a steep path through the dense underbrush, carrying every piece of furniture and equipment down the hazardous hillside.
