Highlights
  • Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara - Wat Chedi Luang, this temple is the site of an enormous pagoda, originally 280 feet high, and was partially destroyed by an earthquake in 1545. At one time, Wat Chedi Luang housed the revered Emerald Buddha image now enshrined in Bangkok’s Wat Phra Kaew. One of Wat Chedi Luang’s most striking architectural features is a magnificent Naga staircase adorns the chapel’s front porch.
  • Wat Phra That Doi Suthep - It is a tremendous temple complex with a visual delight every time you turn your head. It is popular with the tour buses, but wait for the tour to move on and enjoy it. Give yourself plenty of time and you will not be disappointed.
  • Wat Pha Lat - This temple is the ancient precursor (lower on the mountain) than Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. While a little less grand than it’s younger sibling, it is steep with history, reverence, and peace. Boasting beautiful views of the city of Chang Mai, it is built on a stream with a seried of waterfalls. A terrific place for meditation or simple reflection. Go!!
  • Tha Phae Gate - Romantic, Beautiful, Enchanting - these are the three words that I could sum up experiencing one of Chiang Mai’s historic gates - The Tha Phae gate. When the city was founded by King Mangrai in 1296 these gates together with other gates (Chang Puak, Chiang Mai, Pratu Soan Dok) protect the old city. Tha Phae gate lies on the east of the city and made of Red bricks stone.

Great day - Overall it was a successful, fun day. And at under 120€ for 2 people, felt like a great value for all we were able to do. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, the car was very nice and clean and she showed us details and hidden places in the city. Our visit to Chiang Rai would not have been the same without her. We definitely recommend her services.

Memorable Chiangmai temple tour - We actually almost cancelled this tour, good thing we didn't. Our beautiful guide was very pleasant, patient, knowledgable and took the time to take good photos of us. Really a treat! We have learned many important historical information from her as well religious facts on buddhism. Though Chedi Luang is just within the old city bounds that one can easily go to but it is better with a guide as you get to appreciate more what you see and experience the places you visit better. Among the 3 temples we visited Wat Pha Lat is my favorite. Overall it was a memorable tour with our beautiful guide and pleasant driver. Please forgive me I cannot pronounce the names so can't spell them.

Amazing experience! - Absolutely amazing experience! It wound up being a private tour as nobody else had booked it. My guide Ulala was fantastic! So knowledgeable, willing to answer all questions, extremely personable. We had a great time and I learned a lot about history, culture, and Buddhism! She even served as my photographer for the day, and took me on a side quest to find authentic jade jewelry, unique to Chiang Mai. Could not recommend this tour enough!!

Great tour - I did this with Ulala and our driver whose name I forgot. Both were excellent. Ulala was clear and knowledgeable. We happened to be at the temple during a Festival and she took me around and showed me each part of the celebration - even helped me put a piece of gold leaf on a Buddha. It was a real treat. She answered my questions and based on those questions seemed to adjust the tour to me. Definitely recommend this.

Tour of the temples - Our tour guide Oh La La was incredible. She was supper knowledgeable about the history of the temples; about Buddhism in general and she shared her passion and enthusiasm about history of the places we visited. Her English was excellent, which made the experience even better.

Impressive temples and ruins, very interesting history, great guide, would recommend - Wat Doi Suthep was the highlight but all the temples were impressive in their own way. The guide, Mr Noom, was really good. He provided descriptions of the history of the country and city, the temples, and of Buddhism itself, how these all produced what we see today. He was a Buddhist monk for a few years so his explanations enriched our experience, especially about the imagery and what the monks were doing and the significance of the statutes. He kindly offered to take photos for me at the shrine of the pillar of the city, since only men were allowed inside the building, so only my husband and Mr Noom could enter. At each site, he gave us time to observe and ask questions. He also coordinated well with the driver, a nice young lady. The agent at the pickup point called to notify that our pickup would be late and was welcoming and friendly, offering tips for where we might get some food if needed. My husband and I ended up being the only ones signed up for our tour, a bonus for us.
