Highlights
  • Tsagkarolon - Wine Tasting: Indulge in a sampling of five distinct wines from the Monastery, paired with classic dako (crisp bread, tomato, feta, olives, and oregano) and bread drizzled with the Monastery’s own organic extra virgin olive oil.

The monastery tends to 17 hectares of vineyards, producing a unique array of wines including the indigenous Romeiko variety, which is available as a white dry, red dry, and sweet wine. Other grape varieties such as Trebbiano, Muscat of Alexandria, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot have thrived in the local microclimate, resulting in a diverse selection of 11 different wines.
Combine a historical tour of the Monastery with a stroll through the vineyards and olive groves, culminating in a wine tasting session in a specially designated area.

Please note that on Sundays, wine tasting events are relocated from the monastery to alternative venues in observance of local restrictions.

  • Tsagkarolon - Olive Oil Experience: Discover the exceptional varieties of olive oil crafted at the monastery and savor the oil made by the monks themselves, served with traditional yeast bread.
  • Tsagkarolon - Folklore Museum Exhibits: The Monastery of Holy Trinity of Tzagarola, also known as Mourtara, stands as one of Crete’s most affluent and stunning monasteries, housing a quaint museum. The Monastery of Holy Trinity of Tzagarola continues to be a pivotal institution in Crete’s religious and economic spheres. Visitors can tour the monastery and the Museum of Holy Trinity of Tzagarola, as well as witness the production and exportation of high-quality organic products such as olive oil, wine, honey, vinegar, and olive oil soap, all crafted by the monks.
  • Chania - The enchanting city of Chania
The Old Town and the Venetian Harbour have been remarkably preserved, bestowing the city with a distinctive Venetian charm that is rare in the Mediterranean. The allure of Chania draws visitors to its picturesque narrow lanes, the grand lighthouse that stands guard at the harbour’s entrance, and the myriad of historical monuments that contribute to the city’s otherworldly charm. Exploring the labyrinthine streets of the Old Town, adorned with elegant Venetian houses, ornate fountains, and sophisticated churches, allows one to uncover historical treasures that have stood the test of time.

Perfect Tour Despite the Time Crunch - Antonis (a.k.a. Adonis) really organized the the tour perfectly given that we only had about 5 hours to sightsee before our cruise ship disembarked. We never felt rushed and got back to the ship with plenty of time. The private wine tasting at Agia Triada Monastery was an amazing experience and the owner had very generous pours, even letting us sample some raki. My twin babies were cranky so the owner kindly offered some cookies, which they loved, made by the monks just like the wine. I had really wanted to see the oldest Olive tree in the world which was on this island, but Adonis recommended walking around the Old Port instead since it would take 2 hours round trip alone to see the tree. I'm glad we took he advice because we enjoyed walking the cute streets with their shops, enjoying some, coffee, pastries, and fresh local Greek figs and oranges from a grocery store before heading back to the ship. With more time, I'd gladly tour Chania and other parts of Crete with Adonis again.
