Highlights
- Cheile Turzii - A via ferrata ―an Italian term which means ‘iron path’― is a protected climbing route, built with a steel cable rail affixed to the rock, metal steps, ladders, suspension bridges and zip wires. Although it sounds hard and dangerous, it is rather simple and enjoyable. No previous technical experience is required, but we advise against it if you have fear of heights. Safety equipment will be provided by us, as well as an unforgettable experience. This activity consists of the following steps: 1. Equipping everyone in the parking lot and providing safety and technical tutorial (20 mins) 2. Hiking through the gorges to the start of the via ferrata (15 mins) 3. Exploring a small fortified cave right next to the via ferrata (15 mins) 4. Climbing on the via ferrata using the provided equipment (2 hours) 5. Photo session on top of the via ferrata (20 mins) 6. If you love stunning scenery and envy-worthy Instagram shots, this adventure is perfect for you. Cheile Turzii (Turda Gorge), one of Romania’s most picturesque gorges, is situated just 30 km from Cluj-Napoca.
There two tour choices:
a) the thrill-seeker’s version, which includes a via ferrata climb through the gorge;
b) the leisurely option, involving a hike past a host of scenic overlooks above the gorge.
You can indicate your preference when you reserve your tour.
The climbing portion is beginner-friendly (no technical skills necessary), beginning at the river’s edge and ascending up the gorge, even passing through an upright cave known as ‘Grota lui Hili’. The via ferrata is a one-way trail with the descent on a separate hiking path.
Or, if heights unnerve you or you prefer less adrenaline-fueled activities, the hiking option (b) might be for you. The vistas are equally awe-inspiring.

Tudor's a great guy, good... - Tudor's a great guy, good conversation and really fun experience! He's inspired me to look into doing more via ferrata on future trips. Highly recommend!

Best memory of this entire trip! Tudor was hilarious and a great guide! - Sometimes, I try to write reviews and I just don’t have the words describe how amazing the experience was. This is exactly that! Tudor was extremely fun to work with and even helped me plan the rest of my day. The views on this climb make all the effort worth it! If you were looking for a little adrenaline with a great guide, there is no better place. I had shoes with little grip and was still able to do it! (next time I will bring better hiking shoes). This area of Romania is absolutely gorgeous and the via ferrata is a nice mix of challenge, payoff, and beautiful views! After we got down from the mountain, the food trucks and leisurely stroll through the Gorge were a wonderful way to end the tour. (I have done via ferrata a few time before around the world and this was my best experience). Thank you Tudor!!

Via ferrata with Tudor - Tudor was oure guide. We had an amazing klimb. We never did this before and we had a hard time, bud we made it! Good shoes would help us better. Beautiful memory en a lot of pictures. Thanks Tudor!

Fantastic day outdoors! - What a fab day hiking! Tudor was such a fantastic guide and very easy to talk to, giving me lots of advice and tips on really sampling traditional Romania in and around the area, I would recommend this tour to other travellers who have a love for the outdoors and for nature! 10/10 from me!

Buckle up go forward... it's worth it - The gorge is.... gorgeous. It's not unfair to compare it to utopia. Andrei work me so hard hiking up steep hills and slippery slopes for 2 hours...no regrets. I will do it all over again. I am also constantly being fed information about the history.

A must see if you like the outdoors - Really beautiful hike. Tudor was my guide. He has a lot of experience with this hike, and was patient with me being on the slower side. I was expecting a easy hike. By American standards it is a bit more challenging then expected, so if you go be prepared...bring hiking boots. We decided not to climb the mountain as it was a bit more difficult then what I thought I was capable, but have the utmost confidence that Tudor would have gotten us to the top if I was in better physical health.If you like the outdoors you don't want to miss this. Tudor also gave us really great recommendations of things to do and places to see in Cluj-Napoco. Thank you Tudor for an amazing day!

Amazing experience! - The climbing tour at Turda Gorge with Tudor by far exceeded my expectation. I came for the hiking tour and ended up with the climbing tour based on Tudor's recommendation. It turned out to an amazing experience! Tudor is not only very knowledgable and helpful, but also passionate about helping people learn more about Romania and travels in the country. This 5-hour trip was so much fun and lots of learning, thanks to Tudor! 200% recommendened!

Lovely Hike - Great hike with Tudor who was a friendly and knowledgeable guide. Caves, views, climbs and sheep dogs! Easy pick up and drop off, recommended if in Cluj.

Absolutely recommended for people who are looking for challenges and don't have (much) climbing experience! - It was a great experience!
The atmosphere was good and the route was very challenging for me, which is what I wanted. The surrounding nature was of course amazing. Tudor really did a great job and was always very careful and had all the group's needs in mind. If you have the courage, you don't need any previous technical knowledge. However, physical fitness is an absolute must!
