Additional Information

The historical site of Santa Cristina can be found on the basalt plateau of Abbasanta. The site is named after the small countryside church of Santa Cristina, constructed during the 1200s, surrounded by a collection of cumbessias, compact homes originally designed to provide accommodation for pilgrims. This area, significant since the nuraghic era, is split into two parts: the first part houses the water temple (comprising an atrium, a descending staircase and a subterranean chamber with a tholos roof for the spring), a congregation hut featuring pebble flooring and a circular seat, and an assortment of additional small square and circular structures, assumed to be housing for the temple priests and the pilgrims. We are also set to witness the Giants of Monti Prama, exhibited at the Municipal Museum of Cabras. These are the only stone statues inherited from the ancient Nuraghic civilization, alongside models of nuraghi and betyls discovered in their vicinity.
