Highlights
  • Mt. Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station - It is the most popular of the four 5th stations on Mount Fuji and the best developed and easiest to access by public transportation from Tokyo. The Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station is accessible almost year-round, snow conditions permitting, and is a popular sightseeing spot even outside of the climbing season.

The station is reached by the Fuji Subaru Line, a scenic toll road up Mount Fuji’s lower northern slopes, that begins in Fujikawaguchiko Town. It may temporarily get partially closed in winter in times of heavy snow. Furthermore, the road is closed to private vehicles during the majority of the climbing season (July 14 to September 10, 2023).
At 2300 meters above sea level, the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station offers a commanding view of the Fuji Five Lakes area below, making it a popular spot even for those who are not intent on climbing the mountain. An observation point with unobstructed views of Fujiyoshida City and Lake Yamanaka can be found at Komitake Shrine behind the shops.

  • Oshino Hakkai - Oshino Hakkai (忍野八海) is a touristy set of eight ponds in Oshino, a small village in the Fuji Five Lake region, located between Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Yamanakako on the site of a former sixth lake that dried out several hundred years ago. The eight ponds are fed by snow melt from the slopes of nearby Mount Fuji that filters down the mountain through porous layers of lava for over 80 years, resulting in very clear spring water that is revered by the locals.

Next to one pond, visitors can drink the cool water straight from the source. The ponds are quite deep and have interesting freshwater plant life and large fish. Although the ponds have been developed into tourist attractions and can become quite crowded with visitors, they have a pleasant atmosphere as long as you do not expect untouched nature.

  • Lake Ashinoko - Lake Ashinoko, also known as Lake Ashi, is a scenic crater lake in Hakone, Japan. It is renowned for its stunning views of Mount Fuji and is a popular destination for tourists, offering boat cruises, hot springs, and picturesque walking trails arround its shores. The lake was formed in the caldera of Mount Hakone after a volcanic eruption nearly 3000 years ago.

Togendai is a popular spot in Japan, Located near Mount Fuji. It is known as the starting point for the ascent to Mount Fuji summit via the Fujisan Gotemba Trail. Togendai also offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and Lake Ashi.

  • Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu - Hakone-jinja shrine dates back to the year 757. Many military commanders prayed at this shrine devotedly, which brought it fame throughout the country. Another group of worshippers were travelers, who regularly visited the Hakone area, and often came here to pray for a safe trip. Even today, the shrine boasts numerous visitors from various places, who have the chance to learn about the shrine’s history at the shrine treasure house (homotsuden), or see the “red gate of peace” (heiwa no torii) standing proud and tall in Ashinoko Lake. Also, besides the monthly and seasonal festivals and celebrations, a special event, Ashinoko Summer Festival Week, is held every year from the end of July to the beginning of August, during which visitors get to observe a magnificent fireworks display with as many as 18,500 fireworks dancing in the night sky above Ashinoko Lake.
  • Owaku-dani Valley - Owakudani (大涌谷, Ōwakudani) is the area around a crater created during the last eruption of Mount Hakone some 3000 years ago. Today, much of the area is an active volcanic zone where sulfurous fumes, hot springs, and hot rivers can be experienced. Additionally, Owakudani has good views of Mount Fuji on clear days.

Eggs cooked in Owakudani’s hot spring pools with their shells blackened by the sulfur are on sale at shops in the area, and eating one is said to prolong one’s life by seven years.

  • Gotemba Premium Outlets - The Gotemba Premium Outlets are Japan’s most popular outlet mall, located in Gotemba City at the base of Mount Fuji, not far from Hakone. The mall features around 300 stores and restaurants, a food court, a 50-meter-high Ferris wheel, a hotel, and a public hot spring bath.

The stores found at the Premium Outlets are the outlets of internationally known brands of fashion, sports, food, household goods, and electronics, and range from everyday items to luxury goods. The prices are not ridiculously cheap, but they are better on average than what you will find at regular retail shops in Japan. Overall it is a nice place for a day of shopping, with a lot of variety and reasonable prices.

The best tour day I have had for many years - I can strongly recommend this business for any tourists visiting Japan, the guide was very helpful, also had good English explanations. The van was Toyota Hilux Van which suited 5 adults with 5 large suitcases and carry bags plus a small wheel chair. We did a 6 + hour tour of Japan country from our ship in Yokohama then, at the end delivered us to Narita Airport in time for our flight home to Australia. Their very helpful service I can thoroughly recommend. This was the best day with Malik& Waqar.

Day Trip to Mt Fuji with family - Mr Waqar has been exceptional at his service from the day we were in contact 2 days prior to Mt Fuji trip. On the day of the trip he was very punctual and vehicle was very clean and comfortable for family of 5. Mr Waqar was full of knowledge and was willing to share details on all and any type.of queries. He ensured that we visited all the places earmarked in the itinerary and shared all facts and details for us to make the day trip very enjoyable. He is a familiar face with locals at the tourist spots with attendees and shop owners and I was amazed to see all the warmth and respect being shared amongst them when they met. He was a local celebrity of sorts. :) The best part of the trip was Mr Waqar ensuring that we do get a glimpss Mt Fuji which was hiding in the clouds during the day. We finally saw the magnificient mountain and all thanks to Mr Waqar to show his patience and going all out of his way to make the trip memorable for my family. We got caught up in a nasty congestion on our way back to Tokyo but interacting with Mr Waqar and sharing the experiences of travel and life made the congestion time fly like a breeze. For his exceptional customer service, english speaking and knowledge of the tour, warmth and patience, i will give Mr Waqar 5 of 5. I will surely recommend the tour company and specially Mr Waqar for not only day trips in and around Tokyo but Japan wide tours as well. Good memories are always made with good companions. Mr Waqar was a great company which made my Mt Fuji trip very memorable.

My Fuji area - We were picked up at our hotel on time and proceeded to the Mt Fuji area. Mt Fuji was hiding until the end of the day when we got a peak of the top. We had a wonderful day visiting shrines, gardens and an amazing ramen lunch.

Experience of a lifetime! - Thankfully we found this tour and the positive reviews led us to book. We were picked up this morning at the arranged meeting time by Afzal Anjum. He is such a kind and friendly person to spend 10 hours with. Right at the start, he offered us beverages, snacks, and WiFi in the pickup vehicle. It was truly nice to be greeted with these thoughtful gestures. The time flew by for us, as we got to relax and enjoy the entire outing. As for Afzal, it takes focus and planning to think about crowds, traffic, and logistics for each stop on the itinerary. It was so nice to follow his recommendations for a perfect full day. Speaking of the itinerary, Afzal assured us that this was out trip and let us know that we could control where we wanted to go, what we wanted to see, and how long we wanted to stay at each spot. Nice to have the freedom of choice! However, he is a seasoned guide and we were happy to follow his lead. So glad we did. We wouldn't have experienced as many highlights had we decided to change the plans. Breathtaking vistas, delicious food and great conversation. As we are visitors that do not speak Japanese, it felt less intimidating to be introduced to the country by a resident. It felt like being shown around by a friend. At the end of a very satisfying day, we were delivered safely back to our hotel. Thank you, Afzal, for helping us capture memories of a lifetime!

Breathtaking Mt Fuji experience - Our full day tour to Mt Fuji was amazing, our tour guide Hamza was fantastic. We started our day at 7am when he picked us up from our hotel. This definitely was my favourite experience in Japan, we went to several different locations where all the views of Mt Fuji were breathtaking. Hamza made our day run so smoothly and I'd highly recommend this day to anyone who wants to see the spectacular Mt Fuji.

Bad experience - Our tour guide was more like a driver and didn’t have much knowledge of Japanese history and culture. He was recklessly driving and we feared for our lives with our two kids in the car. He rushed us and would text us immediately after dropping us off to hurry back. You can save lots of money and have a great time on your own without this very expensive tour. Wish I knew before hand and would have saved lots of money and my kids unfortunately had a horrible experience on our first day.
