Highlights
  • Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum - The tour kicks off at the “Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum,” located about an hour’s drive from central Tokyo. This outdoor museum showcases a recreation of Japan’s old-fashioned streets and features valuable buildings from various periods, including Edo, Meiji, Taisho, and Showa.

It’s a unique spot where many historic and significant buildings from old Tokyo and Edo are preserved and sometimes restored through relocation. You can enjoy retro-modern and luxurious exhibits, such as residences used by the imperial family and noble families of the time. The streets lined with these valuable architectural exhibits make you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time.

If you wish, we can enjoy a retro-style Japanese lunch at this venue.

  • Shibamata - The next stop is “Takagiya,” a long-established dumpling shop in Shibamata. This shop, which became a filming location for a famous Showa-era film series set in Shibamata, has a relaxed, old-fashioned interior that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into the world of the movies.

Their specialty is grass dumplings topped with plenty of sweet red bean paste. Inside the shop, you’ll find photos and memorabilia related to the films, which should delight movie fans. Additionally, we will combine this visit with a trip to the “Shibamata Taishakuten” shrine.

  • Shibamata Haikara Yokocho - The next stop is “Haikara Yokocho.” Inside this strikingly nostalgic Showa-era retro building, you’ll find a wide array of familiar dagashi (cheap sweets), goods, games, and toys lining the shelves, allowing you to immerse yourself in the feeling of stepping back in time to the fond memories of the Showa era.

You can purchase rare retro souvenirs that can’t be found anywhere else here.

  • Super Potato Akihabara - Optional Tour for Gamers For retro game enthusiasts, the Super Potato Akihabara store is a must-visit! From Game Watch to 3DS, the store boasts a wide lineup and an overwhelming stock. Masterpieces, obscure titles, and rare items are all plentiful. Western games and MSX are also available.

Just browsing through this fantastic chaos is a fun experience! Occasionally, even celebrities drop by.

Great for Rare Retro Souvenir and Snacks Shopping - It was a real cool experience immersing myself in Tokyo's retro era. I believe anyone interested in Japan's good old days would find it worth a visit. Our guide, Takeshi, was extremely knowledgeable about Japan and took the time to explain various aspects thoroughly. The last stop at the "Dagashiya" was the best. We found all our retro Japanese souvenirs and snacks there LOL
