Definitely recommend - Jennifer, our guide, was brilliant at informing us of the jails history. She also managed to honour some of the past inmates' stories in a light-hearted way. The architecture was also stunning! Definitely recommend!

Be sure to visit! - Very interesting history of the justice system in Cork back in the day. We enjoyed the self-guided tour and the short histories of some of the “guests” of the Gaol. The building itself is intriguing. The radio museum is a nice bonus.

Impressive !!!! - Once you come out of this place, you pray not to go to those of today. Impressive. the audio guide is perfect for understanding how prisoners AND their jailers lived in the past. I think that must have changed somewhat now.....

Great "Time Travel" Experience for Kids and Adults - Wandering the corridors of the old prison was really a strange feeling. The building and cells which are assessable were in good shape. It was a pity not being able to walk into the old parts, which are more of lost place, but visible behind a glass wall. The stories about the inmates and the interactive games/performances made the experience more real and comprehensible.

Great site to visit. - This is a very informative site to visit. It is easily self guided and you can also get audio information. The information is great and presented very well. The only downside is the parking which I know is hard to put in place as the goal is in the city but other than that I highly recommend this visit. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Worthwhile Visit - This was worth the visit. The cells, along with the leaflet, told stories of typical inmates really well. The buildings were atmospheric and created a sense of how the building had been used. All the information you need is in the leaflet that comes with admission, so probably not worth paying extra for the audio guide.

Worth a visit - It's 11€ to get in, which we thought a little steep, but on reflection, we really enjoyed this museum. The jail is pretty much as it was, so it feels quite eerie at times, but it does a great job of telling its history. The self-guided tour is great, as all the info is given with the accompanying booklet, meaning you can go around at your own pace. There's a small shop selling hot drinks but no actual café on site. Luckily, it's not too far from the bars along the river.
