Additional Information

The Rebel City Distillery, the source of Maharani Gin and the only distillery in Ireland for Absinthe, signifies the return of distilleries to Cork city after a hiatus of 50 years. A mere 15-minute stroll from the city centre takes you to a place where we arrange tours and tastings, cocktail masterclasses and a unique combination of afternoon gin & tea with an upcoming Spirits School Experience. The distillery, which was founded in 2020, has infused a breath of fresh air into Cork’s historic docklands. Previously a dormant Ford Car Factory landmark, the distillery makes use of past techniques to craft the beverages of tomorrow. An amalgamation of two artistic cultures, our inaugural product, the Maharani Gin, lauds the roots of our founders - Cork, Ireland, and Kerala, India. Robert and Bhagya, the husband-wife duo behind the distillery, derive inspiration from strong women across the globe and a women’s organic farming cooperative in Kerala, India that supplies our botanicals. Apart from this, we are also the only producers of Absinthe in Ireland.

Rebel distillery Cork tour - I recently attended the distillery visit and gin tasting session at Rebel City Distillery in Cork, and it was a fantastic experience! The 1 hour 15 minute session was led by co-founder Bhagya Barrett, whose energy and enthusiasm made the visit truly memorable. Bhagya expertly explained the manufacturing process, from the selection of authentic spices to the final product. The tasting session featured their impressive range of products: Maharani Gin, vodka, and Absinthe, each showcasing unique and delightful flavors. A highlight was learning about the history of Maharani Gin. This exceptional gin celebrates the rebel spirit of Kerala women and combines botanicals from the southwest coast of India with traditional gin spices. It has received numerous accolades, including a Gold Medal at the World Gin Awards and a Silver Medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition. Bhgya was energetic and knowledgeable, making the session both educational and enjoyable. I highly recommend Rebel City Distillery to anyone visiting Cork. All the best to the team – I can't wait to visit again.

Inquisitive Expedition - On our city break travels, we enjoy visiting breweries and distilleries. Therefore, our first trip to Cork resulted in us visiting Rebel City. We were met by Robert and we chewed the fat about his time in Edinburgh, a city close to my heart. We were then introduced to Bhagya, his lovely wife, who led us through the tour. Her passion and knowledge of her business and distilling were clear to see. Their story is very personal, and I have to say endearing to those who visit. A tour of the production process followed by more samples of their produce, including the marvellous Maharanhi (High Queen I was reliably informed) gin. A taste of Absinthe, strong but flavoursome, and then the flavoured Vodka, all absolutely excellent. For what it's worth, the Gin was my winner. This was an outstanding experience and one we would do again on our next return to Cork. We couldn't buy a bottle at the time as we were flying home, but we managed to secure a bottle of Maharanhi in the airport. It will be consumed shortly. Thanks again.

Great Personalized Experience - Highly Recommend - This tour was awesome! It was great getting to talk to Bhagya, and I loved how personal the whole experience was. I highly recommend for those interested, especially since it is one of the easier walks (compared to other distillery experiences).

Future Star! - What an exciting new start up distillery! Very personalized experience; not commercial like other distilleries. You get to meet the owner(s) and learn all about not only the process but the genesis of The Rebel Distillery which is literally the marriage of India and Ireland. The similar history and spirit of Cork Ireland and India is fascinating. The Maharani gin, Absinthe, Vodka (and soon rum!) are handmade with so much thought in the herbs and spice recipes. You’ll love having been on the cutting edge of this baby distillery! 😉

What a memorable day at Rebel City Distillery! - Our team had a great experience touring the distillery, hosted by the owners(and FDT former colleague), Robert Barrett and his talented wife Bhagya Barrett ,MBA, B.Eng. We had the opportunity to taste their exquisite gin, absinth, and vodka, each with its unique flavour profile. Robert gave us an insider’s look into the meticulous process of crafting their products, while Bhagya shared the rich history of the brand and the inspiring journey behind the distillery. It was both fun and culturally enlightening for all of us. A huge thank you to Robert and Bhagya for the warm welcome and for sharing your passion with us. Truly a power couple producing fantastic products! Well done, and thanks for having us!

If you only do one thing in Cork… - This tour was truly one of the highlights of our vacation in Ireland and definitely the best part of our time in Cork. Bhagya is so warm and welcoming. She made learning so fun and gave us tons of recommendations for our time in Ireland. The spirits they sell are top notch. Gin typically isn’t our favorite, but we’re converts… at least for the gin they make. Highly recommend!!

Amazing - An amazing time learning about the distillery process different spices their origins and history around Rebel City Distellery. Both Robert and Bhagya are so personable and likable, would definitely come back and 1 to watch for it's amazing growth and community partnership. Wanted to get a bottle of the Maharini Gin (a big fabourite) at Duty Free but all sold out, shows how popular it is

A distillery with a difference - We were passing and dropped in. Despite being unexpected, we were made welcome and given a tour of the distillery with an explanation of their ethos. We were impressed by the enthusiasm and feminist culture
