Highlights
  • Meeting Place Sculpture - We will discuss the life and work of Leitrim sculptor Jackie McKenna. She sculpted this famous piece in the 1980’s to celebrate the women of Dublin and has been a staple of our streets ever since.
  • Abbey Theatre - Discuss the first women in Irish Theatre, such as Maude Gonne, Dorothy Macardle, Lady Gregory and move on to modern theatre with women. Also discuss the History of the Theatre itself.
  • Rosie Hackett Bridge - The life of Rosie Hackett fighting for women’s workers rights in the 1900’s. Her involvement in the Easter Rising of 1916, and relationship with James Connolly and Jim Larkin.
  • Constance Markievicz Statue - The life & work of Countess Markievicz from County Sligo. A brilliant painter in her youth who studied in Europe where she met her husband Casmir. She returned to Ireland and fought for Irish Independence during the Easter Rising of 1916.
  • Trinity Business School - Constantia Maxwell, the first female professor at Trinity College. Celebrating all of her accolades as well as mentioning her successful family members.
  • Royal Irish Academy - Celebrating the many female alumnus of the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Names include Jessie Buckley and more!
  • Royal College of Physicians of Ireland - The life and work of Doctor Kathleen Lynn. Raised in County Mayo before moving to Dublin, and after America to study medicine. She opened Ireland’s first infant hospital in 1919 amongst many other amazing feats!
  • Dail Eireann - Celebrating the work of Ireland’s first female presidents. Mary Robinson & Mary McAleese were the 7th & 8th presidents and were powerhouses in Irish Politics, making the changes for Ireland to become a progressive society.
  • St Stephens Green - Discuss the Irish Women’s Liberation Movement, a feminist group that began in 1970. Described as ‘short-lived, but influential.’
  • Museum of Literature Ireland - Discussing the overarching themes of women in Ireland having had to operate in the background/shadow of men, and how tours like this one help to shed light on these women for those outside of academia/niche interests.
