La Leona Waterfall Adventure Hike - La Leona Waterfall is located in the small town of Curubandé, 20 minutes from Liberia in the province of Guanacaste. La Leona is a unique deep blue waterfall rooted between two canyons. It’s one of the few, if not the only, one in Costa Rica with this characteristic.

Its water comes from the “white river” or “Rio Blanco” that finds its source in the skirts of the Volcano Rincon de la Vieja. The color of the water is just amazing, between blue and turquoise, which is explained by the presence of sulfur. It’s definitely a must in this area!

Amazing Costa Rican Experience! - What an incredible experience! This tour is absolutely amazing. If you’re looking for adventure, a taste of the forest, and fun in the water, look no further. The waterfall is spectacular. Our guide, Ian, was extremely knowledgeable of the land and fauna. He stopped along the way to explain things to us. He was extremely kind and helped us throughout the hike. We got to see howler monkeys and a toucan as a bonus. Would definitely do again!

Fun fun day - Spectacular day with Vladimir. The hike/swim in was beautiful and great fun. Swimming beneath the falls was unreal. The destination was truly remarkable. Highly recommend . By the way, I’m 79 and didn’t find it any more than moderate difficult

Great private tour w/knowledgeable guide and company that encourages safety - My husband booked the private tour and our guide was Aaron. It was just us too and as we hiked, Aaron was very knowledgeable in the wildlife and fauna all around us and would stop whenever there was something to see or tell us about. It also was good about waiting for us and checking if we kept up and also encouraged safety in the walking through river rocks or climbing on some of the ladders. The hike can be tricky especially when wet and slippery but he made sure to tell us how to step properly and where to grab. The hike was not terribly tiring for us as we ate pretty active but it can be challenging for those that may not have balance for sure. But we enjoyed the adventure and especially with Aaron! At the end I must have stepped really hard into a rock in the river and had Tevas on which I don’t recommend, a a small but sharp tiny rock got into my foot. But Aaron did not hesitate and took out his first aide kit and was swift in removing the rock with tweezer and bandaged me up. all fine and so impressed with this young man!

Fun Hike! - A fun hike through rivers to a beautiful water fall! We were lucky enough to have a private tour with Aaron. He made sure our safety was his top priority! He also took his time to let us take in everything and take pictures.

The best day!! MUST DO all ages - The best experience ever Indiana Jokes vibes! GORGEOUS setting; we adventured in rainforest and arrived at crystal clear waters to the most remarkable waterfall in a cave. Only one in costa rica out of 500 waterfalls in a cave!!!

Amazing experience! - Beautiful views and super fun! We booked the private adventure hike to the waterfall and our guide Bernie was awesome. I didn’t know how to swim and he was supportive in helping in some of the deeper areas, and of course the life vest helped! The hike was moderate difficulty and felt hot on the way up, but a breeze on the way down after being cooled off by the waterfall. The views at the waterfall are breathtaking and worth it! We also booked the water tubing and both Bernie and Victor were really amazing guides. We had a lot of fun and would definitely recommend the experience!!

Do this! - We decided to sneak this hike quickly before our flight out later that day. It turns out it would have been well worth it if we had missed that flight! Our guide Vladimir was fantastic. He pointed out the various trees, landscapes, and animals we saw along the way with descriptions of what they are and how they might be used. The trail was a fun Indiana Jones adventure as you crossed the river, climbed ladders and ropes. The river water was refreshing. The trail was covered by the trees so wasn't as hot. The last part of the hike was the most stunning as you swam through rock openings on your way to the falls. I felt it was like out of Goonies when we finally got the first look at the falls. Highly recommend this hike.

Worthwhile if you’re already in the area - Hike was worthwhile. Unfortunately for us it was during the rainy season so the water was muddied and not blue. Guides were excellent until it was over and I asked for a suggestion for somewhere to eat and they weren’t very helpful. Guess they had gotten their money. Be sure to double check you completely empty your wet bags they provide. My daughter left her ring in the bottom of a bag and we called just a few minutes after we had left and they claimed they couldn’t find it. She was devastated.
