Cusco - KM 104 - Aguas Calientes

Aguas Calientes - We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco early in the morning. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you along the Sacred Valley of Incas to Ollantaytambo train station. Here you will be boarding the tourist train to the trailhead in Km.104.

The trail head is named after its distance from Cusco on the way to Machu Picchu. Here we will begin the full day hike. Our local expert will be helping you to cross the control where your permit to hike the Inca Trail will be verified against your passport.

We will begin with a gradual uphill hike to Winay Wayna. In Quechua the name means forever young. After touring the complex, we will be stopping for lunch at the campsite.

From here, we will continue hiking to Sun Gate or Inti Punku. You will be rewarded with the first site of the lost city of Incas, Machu Picchu.

We will then take a bus down to Aguas Calientes town. Here we will be accommodating you in an ensuite hotel room.

Additional Information

Our abbreviated 2-day Inca Trail journey to Machu Picchu presents a simpler and quicker alternative to the Traditional 4-day Inca Trail. Along this trek, you’ll traverse diverse microclimates, descending from the Andes into the cloud forest.

The path boasts numerous Inca ruins, such as the eminent Wiñay Wayna. Like the travelers on the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, you too will access the ancient Incas citadel via the Sun Gate.

This trail is suitable for families with young kids since there’s no need to hike at elevated altitudes or to camp. The trail’s highest spot is at 2650 metres above sea level.

Our guests will be housed in a cozy ensuite hotel room in the town of Aguas Calientes. On your half-day tour to the Machu Picchu citadel the next day, our guide will escort you through the major highlights of the citadel.

Best Experience - Not Missing Any Details - Couldn’t ask for a better Machu Picchu experience. Jose had all the details. We were picked up at our hotel, train tickets taken care of, made our accommodations in Aguas Callientas, and was the perfect guide on the Inca trail. I got sick half way through the trail and Jose was there to carry my camelback for a good part of the hike. Not every tour company does this. I traveled with my 19 year old sons who had the best time thanks to Jose. Thank Machu Picchu tours and Jose for helping us make memories that will last a lifetime.

Jose was a great tour guide for an amazing hike! - Jose was very helpful. The itinerary was very nice and everything from hotels to food was planned. The hike was somewhat strenuous but the views and photo opportunities made it well worth it! Jose was very knowledgeable and answered all the questions we had about the Inca ruins and history. This was my favorite tour of the vacation and I would highly recommend Jose to anyone who wants to visit the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu!!
