Highlights
  • Qorikancha - Right at the heart of the historic center lies the so-called Temple of the Sun, the principal worship center of the Inca culture. Here, we’ll have some time to explore the site as well as the current catholic church built on top of its settlements.
  • Cusco Cathedral - The Cathedral of Cusco is the perfect example of colonial baroque architecture. As most of the Spanish buildings found in the city center, its foundations are the ancient structure of an important Inca palace.
  • Sacsayhuaman - Following the itinerary, the Sacsayhuaman fortress is our next stop. The impressive megalithic structure has withstood centuries of earthquakes and if it wasn’t because of the damages caused during the colonization process, the site could have been even more outstanding than what it already is.
  • Q’enqo - A few meters away from Sacsayhuaman lies another important ceremonial center to the Incas. The Qenqo archeological site was a ritual-based location where, according to historians, rituals and sacrifices took place.
  • Puka Pukara - Going further up the mountains, we’ll find an archeological site with a fortress-like appearance. It is believed that Puca Pucara served as a military and administrative center.
  • Tambomachay - Tambomachay is one of the perfect examples of Inca hydraulic engineering. It is composed of irrigation channels and three water fountains that continue to provide water until the current date.

What a fantastic guide Fernando is! - An excellent guide makes all the difference! Thank you to Fernando for guiding us with knowledge, humor, attention and a considerable dose of passion for what he does! To consider just one point: the tour deserved to have more time. Maybe a little more time! It would have been even more spectacular!

Okay tour and we learned some Incan history but needs improvement - My wife and I booked this tour for our first day in Cuzco to allow us to acclimate the altitude - we definitely recommend taking a more relaxing first day when visiting if you’re not used to the altitude. The tour started at the Cathedral at the main square - which is pretty chaotic with vendors - and there was no one with signage indicating they are the tour group. We were wandering trying to find the tour guides and it was luck we finally ran into them. we did the afternoon tour which was supposed to be 4 hours but it ended up being 5.5 hours and the back half felt very rushed since we spent 2 hours at the first two (of six) stops. The tour ended at a tourist trap alpaca clothing store (prices were in USD and not PEN) which we didn't appreciate. Our tour guide, Clara, was very knowledgeable.

Stay away - A guide hasn’t turned up… all our attempts to reach the travel company were unsuccessful… such a joke…
