Highlights

D1 Cusco The Navel of the World

Cusco - At the beginning of the day, you leave for the visit of the Inca capital, starting with the cathedral, an impressive building which has many paintings from the Cusquenian school as well as real treasures of goldsmithery. You continue your discovery by the Santo Domingo monastery, former temple of the Sun or Qorikancha. Then you leave the city center for a visit of the 4 main archaeological sites located on the outskirts of Cusco: Q’enqo, Tambomachay, Pukapukara and finally Saqsayhuamán, an impressive fortress which was built on a hill overlooking the city of Cusco. It is characterized by its gigantic blocks of stone interlocked to the nearest millimeter, some of which exceed 9 meters in height and weigh more than 80 tons. End of the day free.

D2 Cusco - The Sacred Valley of the Incas

Sacred Valley of the Incas - You leave for the Sacred Valley and begin your discovery of the place by visiting the archaeological complex of Pisaq, composed of terraces, fountains, observatories and even a necropolis, the largest in the region (nearly 10,000 people buried ). It was from here that the Incas controlled and dominated the Sacred Valley. On the way down, you stop at the local market in the village of Pisaq, before going to Patabamba where you meet the locals with whom you will spend the night.

D3 Patabamba – Huchuy Qosqo

Huchuy Qosco - This day is devoted to hiking: a path leads you first to the small village of Sihuas, then to the Pukamarca pass (3900m) which dominates the village of the same name. A magnificent view of the Urubamba Cordillera and the Sacred Valley then presents itself to you. You then continue your walk towards the canyon of Puma Puncu, “the door of the puma”, before taking an old Inca path restored as part of the Qapacñan project, “the great path”. It leads us to the isolated and mysterious Inca site of Huchuy Qosqo, the “little Cusco”, with its magnificent terraces, stone and adobe brick constructions. Near this site is the house of our hosts who welcome us for the night.

D4 Huchuy Qosqo – Chinchero

Complejo Arqueologico Chinchero - You leave your hosts to resume your hike towards Chinchero. The trail gradually leads you to the Huallata pass, at 4418 m, from where you enjoy an unobstructed view of the Sacred Valley dominated by the peaks of the Cordillera on the horizon. You then descend to the small village of Cuperalto, where shepherds live guarding their herds of camelids. When you arrive in Chinchero, you meet your host family and settle in for the night.

D5 Chinchero - Moray - Maras Salt Pans - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes

Archaeological Park Ollantaytambo - You leave your hosts and go to the heart of the Sacred Valley. You start by visiting the site of Moray, a veritable Inca agricultural laboratory which was used more than five hundred years ago to test the resistance of certain plant species to altitude. Then you continue your visit to the salt pans of Maras, which date from pre-Inca times, and continue to be exploited as before by the inhabitants of the village. The water, which comes from a salt spring, is channeled into a series of basins where it gradually evaporates. A fine layer of salt is deposited there to be immediately harvested. Then you descend towards the sacred valley to continue your journey towards Ollantaytambo along the sacred Urubamba river. After a stroll through the cobbled streets of this unique 15th century village that has remained almost unchanged since its creation, you take the train to Aguas Calientes. Arrival and installation at the hotel. Free evening at the foot of Machu Picchu.

D6 Machu Picchu – Cusco

Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu - At the first dawns and in order to enjoy Machu Picchu outside the crowds, you take the shuttle or the collective bus that will take us to the entrance of the site for the complete visit of the lost city of the Incas with its agricultural sectors, its urban sectors and its incredible constructions on the mountainside.
Descent in the afternoon to Aguas Calientes to take the train to Ollantaytambo and after transfer to Cusco.
