Additional Information

This comprehensive day trip offers the chance to discover the relatively unexplored colonial town of Maras, the Incan remains at Moray, and the distinctive pre-Incan saltpans at Salineras. Maras and Moray were areas in which the Incas grew a variety of crops, such as potatoes and corn, and evidence of coca leaf cultivation can also be observed. These locations are absolutely worth a visit to witness firsthand the impressive Incan engineering and their exceptional farming methods, including irrigation systems that are still in operation currently. The Salineras or ‘saltpans’ played an invaluable role for Peru’s forefathers and continues to hold significance for neighbouring communities. The saltpans have been kept within families through countless generations and are still presently tended to by a community who harvest the salt and make it available for sale. Moreover, during this trip, you will be treated to arresting views of local farm landscapes and the Andes extending across the valley.

Fantastic experience - We really enjoyed this trip. Our tour guide was throughly knowledgeable about the area and gave us a great look into the locals of the area. One of our favorite parts was having lunch at a local lake. I was feeling under the weather but it would have been the perfect time to try some of the local cuisine as they eat it. The historic sites were also phenomenal and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and able to talk us through a lot. I would recommend this tour to anyone.

Must do this!! - Do yourself a big favor and sign up for this tour. My mom and I did this and it was amazing. Our guide, Antonio, and driver, Edwin, picked us up right at our hotel at 8:30 in a comfortable sedan car. Antonio was awesome, a very experienced tour guide who spoke excellent English, and told us all about Cusco and also about the countryside we were driving through and all the local people and practices we saw. He could literally answer any question we asked him about Peru. We first went to a town Chinchero, and went to a local weaving business where they explained how the weave my process works and we had the opportunity to buy their products, and they even sang us a welcome song and goodbye song! We then drove to the salt mines (near the town of Maras), which are really a sight, and our guide explained everything about the history of them- definitely must see these. After this went to Moray where we saw some circular Incan ruins (actually this was an Incan “lab” where they experimented with horticulture). The circular nature of the ruins was spectacular. Then we went to a lake where they set up a picnic with a good array of foods and drinks- definitely enough food to consider this lunch. The lake had an amazing Mountain View and was very peaceful. Despite the actual destinations, the ride through the countryside around Cusco was amazing, and you go to places tourists on the big buses never see. The driver was great- even though the roads of the Peru countryside aren’t the best it never felt dangerous and he always slowed way down for any bumps so it wasn’t too rough, even though you’re on dirt roads a lot. This is definitely worth the price, and we are so happy we stumbled our way in to this. It should have way more TripAdvisor reviews than it does!

Awesome, very personalized! - This tour was great. My friend and I were picked up right at our hotel by our driver and our tour guide in a small SUV. We were taken to a small village where we learned about the weaving and dying process and had an opportunity to buy souvenirs. Our guide was informative and offered to take multiple photos of us throughout the day which was way better than attempting to use a selfie stick. Our pictures came out great! We stopped for a birds eye view of the salt mines before entering them for a tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the process of mining salt. At Moray, we had a multiple opportunities to take pictures and hike around the site. The lunch was way more than I expected, multiple different types of snacks beside a gorgeous river, with blankets and pillows provided! You get way, way more than your money's worth with this tour and it proves there is so much more to see in the Cusco area than just Machu Picchu. I highly recommend it.
