The Cu Chi Tunnels served a dual purpose of being a shelter for the Viet Cong guerrillas and an intricate system comprised of numerous trenches, hidden traps, bunkers, bomb shelters, and an incredible air circulation provision.

Built over a span of approximately 25 years beginning in 1948 by the Viet Minh during the confrontation with the French, the Cu Chi tunnels represent an expansive maze of subterranean passages that extend to the Cambodian frontier. These tunnels were home to soldiers who cooked, ate, slept, worked, and even underwent education during the chaos of war overhead. Notably, the tunnels encompassed hospitals, theatres, schools, kitchens, all integrated into this remarkable system.
