Djémila, also known as Cuicul or Curculum in Latin, is a picturesque mountain village in Algeria, located near the northern coast to the east of Algiers. It is renowned for housing some of the most well-preserved Berbero-Roman ruins in North Africa. Nestled between the Constantinois and Petite Kabylie regions, Djémila was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to its remarkable adaptation of Roman architecture to a mountainous setting. Notable structures in ancient Cuicul include a theatre, two fora, temples, basilicas, arches, streets, and residential buildings. The remarkably intact ruins encircle the forum of the Harsh, a spacious paved square distinguished by a grand arch at its entrance.
