Highlights

We will collect you from your lodging place or chosen location and then set off on an approximate one-hour drive to Las Cañitas Port in Miches. At Las Cañitas, we will start our day with a traditional Dominican breakfast before boarding our boat to reach Samana Bay. Once we reach Samana, our journey continues on a Safari Truck, heading to the Waterfall El Limon. We will then arrive at a local ranch, where we will ride horses to reach the waterfall. At the waterfall, you can swim in its revitalizing waters. Following our visit to the waterfall, we will ride back to the ranch on our horses, allowing them to rest while we treat ourselves with a Dominican buffet lunch.

Post lunch, we’ll return on our Safari Truck to the port where our boat awaits to take us to Cayo Levantado or the ‘Bacardi Island’. We will spend our time there basking on the beach, famously known as ‘Bacardi Island’ due to a renowned advertisement shot there.

Cayo Levantado, also known as the ‘Bacardi Island’, is a spectacular and unique beach in this region, housing a single all-inclusive hotel. The bay of Samana, the coconut trees, and some refreshing cocktails are all set to make your sunset experience unforgettable.

Our tour also includes an overview of the city of Samana, equally known as ‘Santa Barbara’. We will explore the Church, the Port, the Napoleon bridges, and more, all from the comfort of our Safari Truck.

Spectacular outing, super complete, where we can see the authentic Dominican Republic. - More than recommended excursion, it was a joy, from Punta Cana, the hardest part can be the bus ride because of how early you have to leave, we also spent almost an hour picking up passengers, it's what it means to be the first to be picked up... Then the speed boat to the spectacular Cayo Levantado Beach (Bacardi Island) where we ate quite well and continued the boat route to Samaná, from there by truck-bus to the hacienda where you ride a horse-mule and arrive at Salto Limón, another spectacle of a walk through the "jungle" and the waterfall, with little water because it is the dry season, and its natural pool; the return, just as entertaining and with a lot to tell and remember. At the ranch you are assigned a "volunteer" from the area, they usually come from the town of Limón to accompany you and guide the horse through the rocky and complicated path, I haven't said, dangerous. These volunteers accompany us with the only benefit for them of what after the experience on horseback and in the waterfall we want or can give them, for me they are fundamental, and it was very nice for the whole family to talk with them and learn a little about their lives. . They deserve that on this outing we have that "tip", for me, more than earned.

Good for nature lovers - Fun to do the horse riding. We had seen reviews about poor treatment of the horses, and as a group of three, between us we had varying degrees of love to the horses from the guides. So i think it really depends on the guide. The horse ride is fun, the horses are well behaved (if they aren;t the guides correct them). There is a really steep climb back to the horses from the waterfall, which as an asthma sufferer i struggled with, but my guide stayed with me and made sure i was ok. Not much to do on bacardi island but its beautiful and relaxing. Good food. We didn't see any whales but it was apparently on the cusp of the season.

Definitely room to improve - The first driver and bus/tour workers were not friendly. Once we arrived at the boat our tour guide arrived and finally explained what was happening, he was nice . Breakfast was really bad. Horses come with a guide, regardless of if you can ride and a tip is expected - during the last 10 minutes of the ride the guide will push you to give at least 20 US. Conditions for the horses are not good - they slip on rocks and will step in deep holes when it’s muddy, guides hit them a lot. Vendor at the horse ride are very pushy and off-putting. Location and lunch was great, island is beautiful. Worth the money, but they should fix the price to include horses.

Harrowing horseback ride - extorted for tips - Beaches, whale-watching, drinks and lunch all fine. Horse ride to the waterfall was a nightmare - poorly cared for burros, no proper saddles, trail was mud, rocks and horse poop. Fortunately, every horse is led by a “volunteer” guide who lets you know on the way back that they expect a big tip. I don’t begrudge them - my guide literally saved my ass, but not everyone had $50-$60 cash with them for a tip. Also plan o.n $80 for pictures - at least the photographer took credit cards. Excursion was supposed to last 10 hours, but ours was 15. Our guide even exited the bus before the trip was done. I guess he figured he wouldn’t be getting any tips! Find another tour for whale watching, and skip the waterfall - not worth the extra bus time and scary horse ride.

Vomiting and 10 hours of travel. No bueno - So breakfast was listed as included. But was not. However, that turned out to be a blessing when the choppy waters on the ferry ride created a mass vomiting scene. While I get the stormy weather wasn’t the tour’s fault, the lack of adjustment in boat speed was. Also the horses were sad and hit and the “guides” were rude about payment. The entire thing felt very traumatic. The waterfall was underwhelming and we only got 25 min there and only an hour at the beach. The rest was travel time. I just wanted to go home and heard that from others too. The trip was 13 hours and 10 of it was cramped or miserable travel time. I spent $290 for two people and it was not worth it. Also no snacks served … only lunch. And the only “drinks” were rum and coke. Nothing else besides water. Quite misleading.
