Highlights
  • Greyfriars Kirkyard - All tours last approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes and leave from the “Tree of the Dead” located outside St Giles Cathedral on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Each guide is a local expert on Edinburgh’s fascinating and horrifying history, with their own unique style and delivery so no two tours are ever the same.

Combining history, humour and horror, this guided walking tour meanders through the labyrinth of Edinburgh’s closes and alleyways before entering Greyfriars Kirkyard, the world’s most haunted site! We finish the tour ends inside the Covenantor’s Prison, a locked section of a 16th Century walled cemetery. Thought to be the world’s first concentration camp, this is the lair of the ’Mackenzie Poltergeist’, the best documented supernatural case of all time.

Since City of the Dead has the only access to the Prison, we have been able to record all of the ‘attacks’ on visitors there. So far there have been over 900 - including 180 people who have been knocked unconscious.

Spooky! - Ross is an amazing tour guide and I highly recommend this tour! He was really animated, friendly, had some great jokes and had all the audience participating and laughing...or crying with fear. You decide!!

Give me the shivers! - Loved this tour! Ross was great, entertaining and kept us educated on all things gruesome and creepy! However, when singing Lady Gaga he was just dancing with his eyes closed... Would, for sure, recommend this tour!

Humorous and horrifying. A dark treat. - Amazing dark history tour. Ross was the best guide. If you like dark, sarcastic, or ironic humor, this is a must do. A true showman, it felt like we had our own production of a macabre, yet factual documentary. I would recommend to anyone with a taste for the paranormal and a wicked sense of humor.

Ghostly story telling with Ross !! - We booked a private tour for 11 of us for the city of the dead, we headed to meet our guide at 11pm and were out and about till 1am. I highly recommend (if you dare) to take the tour at night. Ross our guide was amazing, such a fantastic story teller, full of enthusiasm and charisma, the night was perfect with the right levels of horror, gore and a smattering of comedy. He was perfect!! even the couple of skeptics that were with us were totally drawn into the history of it all. We ended the night in bloody mckenzies tomb, which is a locked off part of the kirkyard and to have the experience of a private tour just made the night even better. 100% recommend the tour and would definitely recommend Ross. We will be back for a different tour as soon as we can!

If the paranormal is your thing then this is a great tour to go on! - A group of 11 of us done the private tour last night with Ross as our tour guide and we all agreed that it was a brilliant night. Our tour was at 11pm which was a perfect time. Ross is the best tour guide we've had, funny, dramatic, extremely knowledgeable - a great balance of them all. Although none of us were left with a mark from Blood Mackenzie, we could definitely feel his presence needed when standing in his mausoleum. I would highly recommend Ross as a tour guide and also the private tour.
